I guess I'm missing the point of your work flow; if you have records with xy coordinates, how come you need to geocode them? If your data has an address, and an xy, to me that would be better than relying on an interpolated match against a range of addresses along a street. That approach sounds like a great way to qa/qc your street data; match the address against your streets and the ones that don't hit (but you can still add as xy events) show you where your problems are. Is that what you're after?

hello everyone, I have some queries regarding Arc SDE & Arc GIS Server. I have installed Arc GIS Server Enterprise advanced edition 10 one system and installed Arc GIS Desktop 10 one system. If iam doing any project is it require Arc SDE geo database. 1) how we can follow Arc SDE vs Arc GIS Server 2) without Arc SDE geodatabase, can i work arcgis server directly thorugh arcmap and arc catalog 3)if iam using arcgis server with arcgis desktop how wecan maintained GDB data security 3) how arcsde is related to the arcgis server regarding connections, publishing maps, maintain geo database. can any one help this....... ArcSDE and ArcGIS Server are really one in the same; ArcSDE is a component of ArcGIS Server. When you have a geodatabase in SDE/Server, you connect to that database through ArcCatalog to use the data on the desktop. You give permissions/privleges to the database to users just like any other database, however you assign them through ArcCatalog. ArcSDE/Server is used like any other geodatabase source; map making, analysis, etc are all done at the desktop client. There are like 44,000 entries for ArcSDE if you search the resource center, which I just did...

I have some gis data in file geodatabase format. The data was saved in pmf format. All I want is to have access to the data so I can edit and manipulate. Right now I can see the data only through arcreader. I have tried to uncompress the data but it did not work. When I try to view it in arcmap or arccatalog, it will give " secure data", no access. Could someone help. I need help urgently. You need to have who ever actually owns the data to give it to you. First you state it's a geodatabase, but then you say it's in pmf. So which is it? If you have a geodatabase on your computer, you should be able to set the permissions so you can edit it. If you are simply hacking a database, you are on your own.

Open up ArcGIS desktop help and perfrom a search on ' create polygons from lines'. There is a tutorial that takes you step by step on how to do it. It's also availiable on line at this link for 9.x. There is also a tool called 'FEATURE TO POLYGON' that will convert your lines into polygons.

I was wondering is there any way i can access the xy shift values when i move points spatially in editor? I would like to access the xy values and if possible record them to a text file. Thanks If all you want is the old/new xy's, I suggest you add four fields: OrigX, OrigY, XCoord, YCoord. Type them as double. Before you make your edits, use calculate geometry for the OrigX, OrigY values. Then make your edits. When you are done, use the same calculate geometry approach for the new locations.

Seems like there have been discussions about incorporating slope into an impedance value in past; you may want to do a search of the forum, including the old one. Perhaps Jay S or another member of Team Network Analyst will chime in for this one.

A couple of things you might try: Turn the candidate/spelling scores down Try a Single Field locator; as I recall they tend to be a little more forgiving Leave your US One Address alone and composite it with a Single Field locator; you should get the best of both worlds then

I was playing with the sample that ESRI provided for routing network. I was able to view the map document fine. But i was unable to publish the map to AGS. It keeps on saying "Could not obtain a license for NetworkServer". We do have a desktop network analyst extension. Would that be enough to publish the service or we need ArcGIS Server Network Analyst license as well ??? Our license file says as below as license levels. 3dserver , arcgisserver, arcsdeserver, svrenterprise, svrstandard, Can anyone tell me please, what license level would i need? Thanks ... You might want to double check with your ESRI customer service rep, but I am under the impression that in order to use NA in a published service, you need NA for Server.

I tried using just one small area (about 9500 points) this morning without success. I've checked the geometry, looked for missing or corrupt data. I also tried to create a Single Field locator on the full address attribute in my feature class - that didn't work either. Yes, I'm trying to create a v.10 locator. My 9.3.1 locator on the full feature class works fine. My gut feeling is that it's looking for some attribute named or formatted in a certain way. So I'm going to set up a new feature class just like the web help shows and populate it with my data (unless someone has a better suggestion). Thanks, April Just for fun use those exact 9500 points that failed in 10.x in a 9.3.1 locator. Leave everything in the same place, same attributes etc. If they work in 9.3.1, you may have joined the bug-finders club. Be sure to log it with tech support if it is.

The feature class looks good, just built in a clean database this morning. It is the same data I am using in another database with a 9.3.1 locator. But it is big - almost 500,000 points. Could size be a problem? Thanks, April Try pulling out 50K of them and create a locator. If that works, try 100K, etc etc... You mention a 9.3.1 locator; is the one that bails out in 10.x? If so, you may have just discovered the problem....

Joe: I did get some build errors ... then I ran integrate and built the network, thinking that that would solve the problem, but the turn restrictions are still not being honored. I'm not sure what to try next. Bob Sorry. Should have mentioned the second and equally important step: After integrate, use update by geometry and rebuild the network.

Hello everyone, How i can get the license to create the network service or without license is there any possibility to create the new network dataset in network analyst toolbar Jagadeesh Network Analyst is a licensed (fee-based) extension of ESRI. You need to pay for it, register it and get the proper license key code to allow it's use. With what your thread states it sounds like you haven't done any of this. If you have, you need to turn on the extension by clicking the Tools menu, selecting Extensions, and checking Network Analysis. You will need licensed for Network Analysis in order to publish a network service in addition to any desktop installation where you create your mxd's.

I have created a turn feature class to prohibit certain multi-part U turns. It is working just as I'd expect when I solve for routes. The problem is: we are using Navteq data as our base for creating the network dataset and Navteq provides quarterly data updates. I would like to be able to import the turn feature class to the updated data (understanding that it wil only be applicable where Navteq features remain the same -- which is of course the majority of features). I've tested importing my turn feature class into an older Navteq version and built the network dataset. The problem is: even though the majority of road features have not changed, my turn restrictions are not being honored as they were earlier. I'm looking for a way to retain my turn restrictions when I update the (mostly unchanged) base data. When you say they are not being honored, are you getting any build errors? Typically when you re-use turn features it's best to integrate them with the underlying network.

From your snapshot, none of your records are matched; look at the Status column. "U" = unmatched. Look at the score column: 0 means it didn't even partially match. Without knowing what kind of locator you used, the data it is based upon, as well as how your address data is formatted, it's impossible to assess where the problem(s) lie.
