May I know if there is a way to sync 2 personal geodatabase? Or the source must be an ArcSDE geodatabase. "Creates a replica to a personal, file, or SDE geodatabase from a specified list of feature classes, layers, datasets, and/or tables in an ArcSDE geodatabase." url: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//001700000016000000 You've found your answer as shown above. From SDE to your choice of db. Can't do it between two PGDBs.

See #7 of http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/83978-How-to-join-Lines-with-Polygon I've had problems with feature datasets before in geodatabases. That's all I gotta say. And yeah, I think an individual database for landuse and electrical and hydro, and roads is the correct way to go. My practices have worked for me. Apparently there are others who share my view. If they don't work for you, that's okay by me.

Gotta go along with Vince on this. I'd much rather manage multiple databases then get bogged down in the unintended consequenses of using feature datasets for something they are not designed for.

Sounds like a pretty straight forward case of one-way replication; parent to child. Database A should be the Oracle/Server parent db while Database B is the child and pretty much any flavor you want, but I would suggest a file geodatabase. You might want to start here...

Peter- I've never seen one. In the classic sense, alt names refers to the street names only. I suppose you could create a series of locators each using the variation of the city name and then composite them. Kim- I work in a couple of 9-1-1 call centers, and I'm asked all the time to add an alias for street names for every iteration under the sun. Drives me nuts and I don't do it. One of the areas we dispatch for has no naming conventions at all; even different county departments can't decide on the 'official' street name. Here's an example; we may have three houses, all along the same street. Jim, Bill, Jon live in each of the houses respectively. Jim says he lives at 1234 Jims Ln; Bill says he lives at 1236 Bills Ave and Jon says he lives at 1238 Jon ST. In the GIS, I have the 'official' name as Jims LN, and the other two are aliases. When Bill dials 9-1-1 he gives his address as 1236 Bills Ave, and the dispatcher replies with I show that as 1236 Jims Ln.. to which he replies I've lived here for 25 years, it's Bills Ave!!. And it goes back and forth. In the mean time, grandma is having a heart attack... I might go two deep with a street name: official and one alias. Maybe three if they catch me on a good day (official, alias1, alias2). I'm not a fan of aliases!

I am trying to join (doesn't have to be a join if there is something better) a shapefile to a .dbf table which is a one-to-one relationship. This will need to be repeated several times so I a trying to do this in ModelBuilder. Once this join is made, I will then need to add fields and do further calculations on the data in the attribute table. Outside of MobelBuilder, I would make the join then save it as a new shapefile. I have not figured out how to do this within ModelBuilder (since I can't seem to save the join as a new shapefile). The product from the join of the .dbf and the shapefile keeps producing an error when I try to connect it to another tool like "Add Field". "The value cannot be a joined table." I tried the "Feature Class to Shapefile" tool but that product is the folder where the file is stored and can't be connected to anything else either. Tried a few other things that also failed. Any advice on what tools to look into using instead or how to work around this road block? Thanks! Mel This response is an official WAG (wild a$$ guess) but sounds like you can't add a field to a table that's already participating in join. Here's the wag: Can you add those fields prior to the join and then make the calculations after the join? As the saying goes: Wag more. Bark less....

Just let you that I tried three address locators see below, and I couldn�??t find addresses: 4 ELIZA CIRCLE, Lowell, MA 18540 130 CANAL ST 504, Fall River, MA 27210 (two examples from my table) 1. 10.0 North America Geocode Service ArcGIS online 2. 10.0 US Streets Geocode Service ArcGIS online 3. Street address locators from Atlanta.gdb (I downloaded from ArcGIS website) Alice You'll never get addresses in Maine to match against a locator built for Atlanta Georgia, unless you get lucky and Atlanta just happens to have the same address as Maine. Even then, it'll map to Georgia. I don't use ArcGIS Online for locating services so I'm not much help for that. It's my understanding though to do batch geocoding with ArcGIS Online you need to subscribe (pay for) the service.

Hi ALL- I'm new in GeoGIS world. I have an address table and I want to get longitude and latitude for these addresses. I tired to use ArcMap - Geocoding address (under menu geoprocessing - ArcToolbox), but how to export the data with longitude and latitude info. Thanks in advance! Alice Step one would be to create a geocode locator that will translate your addresses into XY pairs in the form of a point feature class. Then you can add Latitude and Longitude fields and using the calculate geometry tool get the lat/long updated. Start here....

It sounds like you're running into NIM081790. Check the workaround and see if it works for you. The bug was submitted on Jun 15 2012: when was 10.1 released? Shortly there after, wasn't it? And the fix is still a work around? Hmmmm.

From the online 9.3 help: File geodatabases do not support all the features and functions available for personal geodatabases. At ArcGIS 9.2, the most commonly used functions not supported by file geodatabases include DISTINCT, GROUP BY, and ORDER BY, and the set functions AVG, COUNT, MIN, MAX, and SUM are not supported outside subqueries. Support for some of these is likely to be added in future releases. And From the online 10.0 help: Because you are selecting columns as a whole, you cannot restrict the SELECT to return only some of the columns in the corresponding table because the SELECT * syntax is hard-coded. For this reason, keywords, such as DISTINCT, ORDER BY, and GROUP BY, cannot be used in a SQL query in ArcGIS except when using subqueries. See SQL reference for query expressions used in ArcGIS for information on subqueries.

To echo Vince; welcome to the ESRI/ArcGIS forums! After a quick google search on terrasync I found this. Chapter 5 page 131 seems to indicate that pathfinder office is the package you need to export your field collected data. The point being that if you were to export the data, you could then use the feature class attributes for the basis of a geodatabase feature class. You may want to try a similar search online; perhaps the specific answer you are looking for is out there. Somewhere.
