I just spoke with an ESRI licensing rep and both Joshua and George are correct. Here is a good doc explaining the functionality and differences: http://www.esri.com/library/brochures/pdfs/arcgis-enterprise-functionality-matrix.pdf Here are some facts for everyone, talking non-ELA, commercial version: We were "grandfathered" into ArcGIS Enterprise Workgroup Standard because of our current license maintenance for ArcGIS Server Workgroup Standard. All versions of ArcGIS Enterprise Workgroup (Basic, Standard, Advanced) cap at a max. of 10 level 2 Portal for ArcGIS users can only use SQL Server Express as RDBMS backend (which means max: db size of 10GB, 1GB memory utilization, 1 CPU Core utilization) Our current ArcGIS Enterprise Workgroup Standard license includes 5 level 2 Portal for ArcGIS users You have to upgrade to at least ArcGIS Enterprise Standard (note the absence of "Workgroup") in order to: get more then 10 level 2 Portal for ArcGIS users use RDBMSs other then SQL Server Express. For example PostgreSQL, SQL Server Std, ect... The cost to upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise Workgroup Standard -- to -- ArcGIS Enterprise Standard is significant. It's difficult to justify the cost considering we will still receive the same exact number (5) level 2 Portal for ArcGIS users. The ONLY advantage that I can pinpoint is being able to deploy on larger hardware, not have to deploy on a single machine and being able to use RDBMSs other then SQL Server Express. Going from 5 level 2 Portal for ArcGIS users at ArcGIS Enterprise Standard to 50 at ArcGIS Enterprise Advanced doesn't seem to make sense. Too bad Standard didn't include 15 or 20, that would def. "sweeten" the deal for us.

We're upgrading our current GIS box and would like to improve upon our current SQL Server Express instance. I want the RDBMS to utilize the expanded system resources of the new box and Express just can't do that. I just got the quote to upgrade to SQL Server Standard 2014 (minimum 4-core license) and about lost my lunch, so I'm looking for alternatives and PostgreSQL looks promising. New box will run Hyper-V Core, then virtual OSEs VM-1 -- MS Server 2012 Std; Domain Controller VM-2 -- MS Server 2012 Std; ArcGIS Server VM-3 -- Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS; PostgreSQL I assume that adding database server connection to PostgreSQL in ArcGIS Desktop will be a similar experience? After the connection is made, can I simply right click and "create new geodatabase"? I guess I just am looking for the differences in user experience when interacting with a PostgreSQL backend vs. SQL Server. thanks!

Great catch, thank you. I edited the post, moved DC to VM-2 alongside ArcGIS Server.

currently approx. 5-10 simustaneous field data collectors current SQL Server Express instance with all SDE gdbs is ~5GB current ArcGIS for Server 10.3.1 Standard Workgroup; 2-core license current Win Server 2008 x64 8GB RAM box functions as: 5TB RAID5 array that stores all SQL db data/logs, and also file data that's shared via SMB runs ArcGIS for Server runs IIS7 web adaptor current published feat. services as added as peroxided items in AGOL current box is always running at 97%+ physical memory, we need more memory and I also want SQL server to utilize more then 1GB of memory, hence the upgrade to Standard. New box. 6-core, 32GB RAM old GIS box will continue to be file server new box will run Hyper-V Core as host OS, with 2 guest VM's, each will be Server 2012 Std: VM-1 Active Directory Domain Controller SQL Server 2012 Std VM-2 ArcGIS for Server 10.5 Standard Workgroup; 2-core ArcGIS Web Adapter on IIS7 Active Directory Domain Controller How should I configure the physical drives in the new box; how about his? Single physical 60GB SSD 7.2K RPM drive for host OS, Hyper-V Core (I don't want to go down the thumb drive route) One Big Raid10 array with 4x500GB SSD 10k RPM physical drives = 1000GB of space. VM-1_OS.vhd -- OS (120GB) VM-1_SQLdata.vhd -- SQL Server Data (500GB) VM-1_SQLlog.vhd -- SQL Server Logs (200GB) VM-2_OS.vhd -- OS and ArcGIS Server and AD DC (120GB) Edit: looks like DC's are incompotible with both SQL server and ArcGIS Server. I'll find a different solution for it. Too bad MS Server 2012 R2 Std didn't come with more then 2 VM licenses...We just cannot justify the datacenter edition price.

ArcGIS online popup config, custom attribute display. I included a link to survey123 in the correct format, but I cannot pass data from the clicked feature to any survey123 fields that are type: "note" or "hidden". &field:hidden_name={featureService_fieldName} I checked the schema field type of the hidden and note field and its string, this matches the feature service attribute type. passing data to a survey123 type: "text" field works fine, but it has to be editable, i.e. read_only = "". I'm just trying to link clicked features to forms, WITHOUT the field being editable in survey123. If you pass a string to a type: "text" field in survey123 it works, but what happens when the user edits that field...you no longer have joinable data. This is why I wanted to pass a value to a hidden or non-editable field but I just cant.... any ideas?

I always get that error with that tool (as my heart sinks--lost field data) unless I have the .geodatabase and output .gdb file on the C:\ drive prior to executing the tool. I have a special folder, C:\failedSyncs\ I thought ESRI was adding a supported USB data dumping method? There sure seems to be a lot of "my device won't sync" posts, always has been.

Occasionally we have a field crew member that cannot get their device to Sync. Devices are usually iOS, so they dump the .geodatabase file using iTunes and send it to home base; not a huge deal. **off-topic: Where is the ESRI supported USB method of dumping data from Collector, thought that was in the works? Anyway, I then run the "copy runtime geodatabase to file geodatabase" tool, which converts the .geodatabase to .gdb format. Depending on the number of edits the field crew member had, (especially having to re-link feature attachments), the "Manual" sync process done by me can take some careful planning, consideration and time. I'm sure many others have found themselves in "Manual" sync land, how do you do it? I'm not looking for "I add a field to save the GLOBALID so that I can later batch-update the REL_GLOBALID in the attachment table"....kinds of explanations. 1) have you scripted manual sync's? 2) do you somehow use the "Synchronize Changes" tool? thanks.

sde geodatabase / feature dataset A WGS84 UTM Zone 11N - meters file geodatabase / feature dataset B NAD83 State Plane Arizona East - US Feet Question: When I export (feature class to feature class tool) from feat. dataset A to feat. dataset B, what geographic transformation is used to convert the datum from WGS84 to NAD83? Can this be specified, like you can when using the projection tool? thanks.

same here, we receive "error performing submit job operation for export tiles on export cache." I tried both the AGOL imagery and topo basemap and both give the above error. ESRI, please advise. thanks. EDIT: I removed the ESRI topo basemap and added a cached map service from our 10.3.1 server as the basemap and the download in Collector worked fine.

ArcGIS Server 10.3.1, feat. service published and added as item to AGOL. After adding the item to a map, you cannot export data via analysis/manage data/export data. Error: Data owner(s) must first allow others to export. I am logged into AGOL as the admin, still doesn't work. I'm assuming this functionality is only available for hosted feat. services. Can anyone confirm? Any GUI methods in AGOL to export non-hosted feat. service data to .csv table, FGDB, or SHP? What about upgrading to Server 10.4, I did read about a new "extract" capability in feat. services. thanks.
