I'm about to setup ArcGIS Server workgroup (10.5) and was wondering if my geodatabase as to be SQL Server or can I use another one, like Post SQL? From what I've read, it sounds like it needs to be SQL Server and that it needs to be installed on the same server as my ArcGIS Server workgroup. I just wanted to confirm before getting started. Thanks!

We have a web application that uses feature services stored on our internal ArcGIS services. Due to the limitations of the basemaps we have in house, we are using the services from AGOL to support the underlying basemaps in our app. To me it seems that our internal data is secure but I need to be 100% sure. Does that help? I guess what I really need is ESRI to weigh in on this and confirm that the data is secure with this type of model.

Our institution wants to be sure that our data is kept in house when using the standard ArcGIS basemaps services (Topo, Streets, etc). Does anyone know for certain the answer to that question? We have feature classes built in house that are stored on our internal ArcGIS server so we know those queries are not a problem. The question comes when we use the basemaps from ArcGIS online. The basemaps provided in our package do not scale down low enough so that is why we are using these basemaps from the online site. I have an open case trying to find the answer to this question as well but thus far they have been unable to totally understand my question.

Thanks again for all the good responses. I'm finally getting back to this effort. I was able to publish the streets and topo basemaps to our server using the cached tiles provided in the 2013 esri data and maps for server. This works. However, the scale do not give enough detail for what I am trying to do. I'm very close to getting this just right but can't seem to get over the hump. I'm guessing I cannot adjust the scale and extent of those tiled basemaps that come ready to go from ESRI? I've tried but have yet to get that to work correctly. The service definition is provided with the map tiles and the scales are set in that setup file. Adjusting them seems to be problematic. Basically I want to get the World Topo service that ArcGIS online has and create that same service on my server. It seems like such a simple exercise but I continue to struggle. This is the service I want to replicate: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=30e5fe3149c34df1ba922e6f5bbf808f Any ideas? We are using ArcGIS for Server 10.3 and Desktop 10.3. At this point, we are not using the portal.

I finally answered my own question. Each morning we run a python script that extracts our data from Netezza, goes the geocoding, then we do a spatial join to get the census tract for each address, then we write that data back to Netezza. Please let me know if you are interested in learning more about this process.

Rebecca, thanks for your response. We have all of the ESRI data and maps purchased with our package so we have access to that dataset. I should clarify exactly what I am trying to do here. We are using QlikView to deliver our enterprise analytics to our organization and we are implementing a mapping extension that will use our internal ArcGIS server to publish maps to our application. Normally this is done by pointing to the ArcGIS online server but for our purposes we must use our in house server. KliqMaps is the extension we are using (for anyone that might be interested). I like your idea of capturing the basemaps for internal use. How would one go about that? I will research that as well. Thanks again.

I have the same issue as the original poster. I work for a hospital and we have to keep all of our maps in house and we hope to do that with our ArcGIS server implementation. I'm a newbie to the world of ArcGIS so I am sure there is something I am missing in regards to publishing basemaps in an environment such as mine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for the exact same solution. Did anyone find out how to do this? I'm going to explore using a model and toolboxes but I'm not at all sure how to go about this. Any help would be great.

All messages are being printed. I can post an image of the model shortly. It's just the one tool to create the feature class. Very basic.

I have been doing some testing with models that I want to schedule and to start with I created a basic model that only creates a feature class within one of my file geodatabases. My toolbox name is: CDWGeocoding The alias name is: CDWGeo Model name: ImportTest This model has no parameters. I've been running the following script (which completes just fine). The problem is the feature class is not being created. This runs fine with ArcGIS just not when running through a script. import arcpy import os from datetime import datetime print("Starting toolbox import.....") arcpy.ImportToolbox(r"C:\Users\JOEBOBSMITH\Documents\ArcGIS\CDWGeocoding.tbx") print("Import Complete") print("Model executing.....") try: #CDWGeo is the toolbox alias arcpy.ImportTest_CDWGeo print("Model complete.") except: print arcy.GetMessages(2) I've been using this page as a reference: Scheduling a Python script or model to run at a prescribed time | ArcGIS Blog Does anyone see any problems with this script? It seems pretty straight forward and simple. I'm sure it's something simple that I am missing. Thanks!

Michael, I do not have a solution for you but I do have a question. I need to setup an automated process to geocode about 2.5 million addresses for an initial run, after that the runs will be much smaller but I need this to be an automatic process. I've opened a discussion around this topic: https://community.esri.com/message/459609?sr=search&searchId=8b1ea69d-1e76-4630-a59b-773dcf2a25df&searchIndex=3#459609 If you could share some information on how you are accomplishing your geocoding that would be great. Thanks!

My organization has recently purchased the following ESRI products: ArcGIS for Server 10.2.2 ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2.2 ESRI Business Analyst 2014 My task is to setup a automated process that will geocode all of the addresses in our database (IBM Netezza) on a weekly basis. The first run will be about 3 million addresses that need to be geocoded, then each week the number will be much smaller (a few thousand). I'm struggling to figure out where to start with this. Does anyone have any information or any ESRI pages that can help me get started? Most of what I have read talks about geocoding on a adhoc basis. Any information would be most appreciated! Thanks
