Agreed with Bubba. If you were going to expose port 6080 to the web you'd want a CA cert for your GIS Server, but since you're exposing the GIS Server via the web adaptor you can set up a CA cert for the web server and be good. I generally create a new self signed certificate using the ArcGIS Server admin API using the application server's hostname as the CN instead of using the one that ships with the GIS Server. I also recommend testing with both http and https allowed on the GIS Server before flipping the switch and requiring https only. That way if something happens somehow and SSL is broken you can still get into the admin API and make adjustments.

Here in Esri support, we'd ask you to install Fiddler on these machines, start it up, and reproduce this issue. You could then compare the successful result against the unsuccessful result and see where the failure is.

We just use map services for internal network. We are using Web Adaptor(80) to administer and just wanted to be sure that enabling admin rights in Web Adaptor is safe. It is, especially for internal users. Enabling admin access means that users can access server manager and the admin API via the web adaptor instead of going to the default application server port of 6080 to do so. Just limit the users that are members of the admin role to prevent users from performing unauthorized access to your site.

You can administer ArcGIS Server through the web adaptor, or you can check the box to disallow administration through the web adaptor and allow users inside your network to admin the server on port 6080. In any case, I'd personally not expose port 6080 to the outside world - connections to 6080 should be created by users on your internal network. What specific security holes are of concern? I'll tailor my response to your needs.

Hi, I'm not sure I understand the question. If you choose not to use a mxd and if you have the Image extension for ArcGIS Server, you can create a mosaic dataset and publish that, or you can publish the imagery directly as image services without a map document. Can you please clarify the goal and which version ArcGIS Server you're using? The workflow can be different depending on the version you're using.

A question was brought to Support regarding how attachment uploads to feature services can be controlled. Specifically, the user asked if there was any way to limit the uploaded media MIME types in order to prevent malicious users from uploading executable applications, scripts, or other potentially malicious items to a GIS Server. While ArcGIS for Server cannot control the actual content that is uploaded, it can control the MIME types (essentially the file extensions) and file sizes allowed to be uploaded as attachments to a feature service. The workflow is formally described here in the ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 help documentation, but it is not central in the ArcGIS for Server documentation. To that end, and because controlling this facet of ArcGIS for Server isn't discussed often, I wanted to highlight this option. To make these edits, an ArcGIS for Server administrator can leverage the Administrator API. Settings for maximum upload size and allowed upload types are configurable on a per-service basis, and are not global changes. This allows for flexibility when deploying services for use with various applications. By implementing maxUploadFileSize and allowedUploadFileTypes limits, an administrator can better control the content uploaded to an attachment enabled feature service.

Esri support services should be able to help you get your site back to allowing a connection on 6080 (http). It's best to test with both http and https enabled before switching to https only to verify that the SSL certificate will work with ArcGIS Server.

If you're getting reports that the percentage of committed memory is too high the solution is not to try to limit the memory consumed by the GIS Server, the solution is to increase the virtual memory available to the server. The commit charge percent is a relative measure that takes both physical and virtual memory into account.

The password associated with the account used to connect to the Windows/Ldap directory has expired, or that user is no longer valid. That setting does nto get dynamically updated when the account is updated. Walk through the steps to reconfigure ArcGIS Server to use WinAuth again, and you should be fine.

Any way you can post a diagram of your site configuration? You could use an external capabilities file, but you shouldn't have to. I suppose that depends on the nature of the problem, though. What specifically is failing in the getcapabilities response?

Are the connection properties in the data store registration page the same as the connection properties to the geodatabase in the map document properties?
