Hi Ryan Uthoff On the surface, it sounds like this error is alluding to the fact that the underlying database that Portal runs off of is in a read-only mode. As implied, no SQL commands can be done to modify that content directory location. That being said, I did want to ask if this was the documentation you were following: Changing the portal content directory—Portal for ArcGIS (10.6) | ArcGIS Enterprise If so, the part that I wanted to emphasize was granting full control permissions to the service account that is running Portal for ArcGIS for the new directory location -- Step 3. Was this done? -Daniel

Hi Matthew Boyle, Presently, there is not a means to formally overwrite a geocode service. What you can do is either update the data for the service or publish a new service altogether and re-implement that into any online portals or web apps. For example, if you have a composite locator, you can follow these steps to update the service: 1. Stop the geocode service 2. Update the reference data for the individual locators 3. Rebuild the individual locators Rebuild Address Locator—Help | ArcGIS Desktop 4. Start the geocode service Hope this helps! -Daniel

Irfan Clemson My mistake. I meant to specify the endpoint as /portaladmin. So you are saying that https://gis.mydomain.com/portal/portaladmin DOES resolve okay?

Hi Irfan Clemson, Are you able to hit the admin directory at https://gis.mydomain.com/portal/admin ? If so, does it let you sign in there?

Hi Hwa Saup Lee, At face value, it sounds like you have two different versions of each product. Can you double check the version of ArcGIS Server that is installed? If it is not 10.6, then the GeoEvent install will not work and terminate with that error message. By the same token, you can ensure that the GeoEvent version matches that of your ArcGIS Server, whether that be 10.6.1 or 10.5.x and earlier. Hope this helps. -Daniel

Hi Thomas Mathew, Good question. There are several levels to this answer, but at the most basic, it really does not matter what machine you install the Web Adaptor to be used for the GeoEvent Server on. As long as the Server B is able to communicate with Server A, then the web adaptor can be installed on either/or. You are correct. In regards to GeoEvent, a Web Adaptor is only relevant for federating the Server with Portal. Technically, it will still work if you just use the FQDN:port URL, but that is assuming they are on the same network. It is really up to you as to whether you want to use the Web Adaptor. All internal processes and communication go through 6143. Again, the WA will only be a consideration for when you want to federate with Portal and you need to go through the internet to do so. Hope this helps. -Daniel

abdullah qasrawi Okay. If you are being automatically signed out after a period of time, that would be expected based on the default configuration for Server tokens. You can take a look at the documentation I provided above for information on how to change the lifespan of these tokens. However, keep in mind that the longer the lifespan of the token, the more of a security vulnerability it is. -Daniel

Hi abdullah qasrawi, May I ask what you mean by the "ArcGIS server account"? Do you mean that you are being signed out of Server Manager after a period of time? Or is access to a secured service being affected after a period of time? There are ways to modify the lifespan of an ArcGIS Server token (see documentation below), but I would like to know if there is a potential concern with the Server itself. Editing token settings in Manager—ArcGIS Server Administration (Windows) | ArcGIS Enterprise We look forward to your response! -Daniel

Hi John Watermolen I want to quickly piggyback off of Zahina's reply and provide a little clarification. If you wish to publish to a specific server from ArcMap, you can make a direct connection to that server and publish the service to the server by specifying that server connection. The only caveat is that it will not be a "hosted" service. See below: How to publish a service from ArcMap—Documentation | ArcGIS Enterprise When you are signed into Portal from ArcMap, and then you choose the option for "My Hosted Services (portalOrganization)" when gong to publish, then it will be a hosted service that resides on the hosting server. In other words, you cannot specify which federated server that a service is published to when publishing to Portal from ArcMap, but you should not need to since ArcMap gives you the option to publish directly to the server anyway, regardless if it is federated or not. ArcGIS Pro does not give you this option and can only publish to a server if it is federated with Portal and that is the Portal your are signed in to. Does this make sense? -Daniel

Jamal NUMAN This can be simply a case of the service not loading promptly and it just needs a few minutes to draw (since it contains so many records), especially if the default extent is for the entire service area. You can try zooming in/out to see if the service will draw closer extents more quickly since less features need to be rendered. The JSAPI is really minimal in terms of what it requests from the service, so unless there is something underlying with the service that is a problem, then it should not be a problem to load here. One thing you can check too is how it displays in the ArcGIS Online map viewer. This usually zooms in the default visible extent of the service, so you may see it appear there without having to tinker with it. -Daniel

Hi Jamal, I can explain that. The draw time for the service, when it is being consumed, is going to differ from that within the Preview in Desktop. In the documentation that Joe provided, it mentions that this is meant to give you an idea for how the service will perform when being used in external clients. When you have a map service, there are a lot more variables that come into play when it comes to draw speed and overall service performance. These are things like network speed, server machine resources, and database performance (if the data source is registered). As such, it would be expected that a service will take a little longer to draw since there is much more work happening behind the scenes rather than just a simple query to the data. I hope this helps! -Daniel

Hi Meghan Kulkarni Are you by chance able to provide the actual code you are using when running? You can of course use fake usernames/passwords/URLs, but I just wanted to ensure that there was no syntax issues. Beyond that, I also wanted to ask if you are executing the code on the same machine that you are able to access the feature service URL from in a web browser. If not, then is the machine that you are executing from connected within the same network as the ArcGIS Server? Or do you know if it has access to that server? Thanks, Daniel

Hi Jamal NUMAN, Thanks for posting this question. Unfortunately, there is no means of accessing the Server logs and the statistics without first logging into Server Manager. Since this is considered an administrative function, it requires an admin token to access. The only other thing I can think of (if you do not want to manually go through the process of logging in) is to generate a token that you can use for a certain amount of time to provide temporary access to a user. This can be done through the following steps: Acquiring ArcGIS tokens—ArcGIS Server Administration (Windows) | ArcGIS Enterprise I hope this helps. -Daniel

Hi Bill Fox, I am not sure if this was meant to be posted here as a question related to ArcGIS Enterprise, but I do want to thank you for bringing it to this community's attention. Esri products that leverage mobile cellular connections (all the field collection apps) may be affected by such an issue with Apple's iOS update, but it seems that Apple has since corrected the problem. If there is ever an impact on one of our products due to a third party component out of our control, then we will be sure to let our users know and communicate all relevant information accordingly. Thank you again! -Daniel

Hi Gill Paterson, It sounds like you have everything set up correctly. Is that behavior seen with every service endpoint that you try to go to? Or is it only for a select few? Either way, I wanted to ask if those services are shared with Everyone. If so, they will not prompt for authentication. If a service's sharing properties are set to the Portal or individual groups, then the service should not be able to be accessed anonymously and will require a user to sign in. Perhaps in your example above, the folder you clicked on contains some services that are shared with the Portal only and some public. If this is the case, or if the entire folder is secured, then a prompt for authentication would be expected. Please see if you can double check this.
