Jay, I suspect the problem is that for the layer you are searching , popups have not been enabled in the webmap. Try making sure the popups are turned on, the restart collector , and open the map and try searching. There is a bug logged for this already: NIM103747 if you want to track it. Unfortunately it wont be fixed in 10.3 (coming very soon on iOS) but it is something we're trying to address for the following release. Paul

If you have recently updated a map (since July4th) and downloaded it to your device and are seeing a crash on opening the offline map can you please share the map with us. We are trying to troubleshoot the issue and put in a fix if possible before the User Conference but have been unable to reproduce the problem in house. As a work around updating the symbology for the map/layer seems to resolve the issue but if you have downloaded a map and it is crashing can you please zip up the offline data folder on your device and email it to Collector4ArcGIS@esri.com and if possible share the map to a new group and invite the user Collector4ArcGIS so that we can try to track this down before the update we have going out in a few days.

A few troubleshooting suggestions for those Android users running into sync issues: If the sync is failing immediately first check your network connection (especially if you have a vpn or proxy active) and then try the following using a file manager on the device browse to: ArcGIS_Collector\offline_data\ <your map folder> first make a backup, then if there is a folder there called SyncGdbRequest with files in it remove it, additionally if there is a file client_delta_<numbers>.geodatabase remove that too. restart the app and try sync again. If sync is failing after a given time period or you get progress before it fails it is likely a result of: a. Your network connection has dropped and we are unable to resume the sync and needs to be attempted again. b. You have hit a bug in the upload limit or download limit (this can vary depending on your device) We will be putting out an update to address both of those in the next few weeks. We are hoping to have a beta of that out shortly for people to test. You can check that by browsing to the map folder (see the path above) and looking at the size of the file client_delta_<numbers>.geodatabase if its > 100mb you may be running into that bug If you are still experiencing problems please contact support, or share a copy of the map to the user Collector4ArcGIS so we can take a look , or if size permits zip up your offline_data folder and share it to Collector4ArcGIS@esri.com and we can take a look at the issue.

I know this has been an hot topic with the Collector community and I'm pleased to announce we will soon be starting to take advantage of the built in beta community functionality on Android Play Store. Unfortunately at this time we can offer an equivalent experience on iOS because its not supported through the itunes store. More details will follow so watch the ESRI blog, but essentially what is going to happen is you will be able to request an invite to the beta community on Google+ as we make new beta builds available you will be able to download them from the play store, and use the google+ community to discuss and provide feedback. Our plan is to do short beta before the User Conference, to a small group and work out any kinks in the process and then continue to do regular betas between releases. That first beta will include the following primary features: - The ability to use an basemap local on your device whether your map is offline or online - The ability to switch local basemaps whether you are online and offline - The ability to search features like Explorer for ArcGIS

This is currently a known issue with some camera apps, the Collector team is looking into how we can work around this issue or mitigate it completely on our side. In most cases this can be solved by switching to a different camera app , we've seen users work around it specifically with "Camera MX" or "Camera for Android" from the play store. Other camera apps may work too but those are the ones we've seen work for Samsung devices exhibiting this problem. If neither of those apps work for you please send us an email at Collector4ArcGIS@esri.com so we can get some more detailed information about the issue. Regards, Paul

I wanted to toss this question out to the Collector community. When your users are browsing for maps in collector how important is it for the summary text to be on the map card (like it is today)? Is the title sufficient for them to find the right map? Is there other information missing from the card that is more important to you when supporting your field workforce? Let us know your thoughts

Currently offline requires every feature service in the map to have full editing capabilities to for offline use. We do support disabling editing at the webmap layer to allow for use of read-only features in the field. In a future release we will be adding in support for finer grained control in the field so that you can do things like, prevent deletion, update attributes only and allow new feature creation only.

Thank you for the reply Paul. Price is no issue, and since it will be used by the city planners, the otterbox case will suffice for rugged protection. I agree with you about the 7-9 " tablets but the planners like the big screen. I have done test with Galaxy tab and words great, but had issues with the scrolling on the Ipad. Management wants the latest devices and want one of each. Have you experienced any issues or reported bugs using the Note Tab? I should add that they will be using collector The Note tab is a pretty recent addition to the testing team, its a bit smaller than your average 10" tablet (less bezel on the sides), and performs well in our testing. We haven't had a really sunny day yet to go outside and test it yet.

We try to test on a variety of brands and devices. Thats a lot easier to do on iOS. Below are the devices we have on the Collector team that we test with regularly (and it is growing all the time). This doesn't include additional devices on other teams have such as the SDK teams or devices available through cloud testing services. In terms of a recommendation, theres too many factors to really recommend one tablet. With consumer focused tablets generally you're going to get higher end specs (better performance) because of the cost/time investment around developing rugged hardware. However the benefit for certain things like sunlight visibility, barcode scanners and operating temperatures (desert sun) can be really nice even essential. I would start if you haven't already by listing your requirements (cost, specs, ruggedness, etc. etc.) and then categorize them by essential and nice to have and start seeing what devices make the cut. The question of capability comes up frequently when talking about android. Overall we see less device specific issues come through these days than a year ago. This is solely my preference but I find the 7-9" device size is really nice in the field, the keyboard is bigger than a phone for typing, easier to hold than a larger device, smaller to shade if sunlight is a problem, bigger map than the phone, and still small enough for some pockets iOS We have every device Collector supports Android Phones Galaxy S2 Galaxy Nexus Galaxy S4 Galaxy S3 Galaxy Note II International Nexus 4 Droid Razr Maxx HD HTC One X HTC DNA Galaxy Note II US Sony Xperia Z Nexus 5 7-9 " Tablets Nexus 7 - 2013 Nexus 7 - 2012 10" Tablets Xoom Tablet Toughpad FZ-A1 Xplore Ranger Nexus 10 - 2012 Sony Xperia Z Galaxy Tab 10.1 - 2011 Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014

Jorge, its a know issue with some samsung devices right now, its actually their camera app that is causing the problem.. Good news is that samsung's 4.3 update seems to have resolved this issue (effectively its a memory bug). If you pull down a 3rd party camera app (MX Camera as an example) it should work fine. The 4.3 update has rolled out here for most of the devices in the US I would anticipate that Canadian carriers would be getting it soon.
