Hi All, I am struggling with something related to coordinates; I have been given some coordinates for a cable: they are in excel but I had to modify a bit it as it was with blanks rows and things like that. the original format of each cell is : latitude: N32 28.5701 longitude : E034 53.1880 so in order to import all the coordinates into GIS (ARCGIS 10.2.2 desktop), I modified a bit the cells to remove the letters "N", "E" and the spaces between the numbers. It does not recognize the zero as first number so I managed to leave it but when I import it in GIS the "0" disappears anyway. Now I think (but I might be wrong) that it is not a big deal it deletes the zero as to be honest all my coordinates give me lines linked each other so it should be allright. The main problem is that who gave me the coordinates told me to assume they are in WGS84. Well they do not appear on the right place of the world (They should be in Mediterranean sea) but they appear in Africa. (using ARCGIS Basemap) I do not know whether this is a problem on how GIS reads the excel with the "0" or it is a projection problem. These coordinates are for a quite big area so anyway I do not know which projection to give to them as they fall in different part of the Mediterranean sea. Any suggestion will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, F.

Hi Dan, thank you very much, but I have really basic knowledge of GIS and I didn't really understand. As far as I understood you said to use Phyton which I have no clue at all as well. Is there any change to do the task in an easier way for me? Is it not possible to use raster Calculator? Is it wrong? Sorry about that but I am struggling a lot with this task. Cheers, F

Hi Dan, thank you very much for answering. as far as I know they will provide me two different DTM from different surveys and they would like to know if I would be able to make a different plot and calculate the volume as well (something like a grid model volume computation). As I have no clue where to start (I do not even know if it is something I can do with SA) I am asking for some suggestions. Thanks F

Hi all, does anyone know if I would be able to accurately calculate a difference plot (including total volumes) in ArcGIS if I were to request the DTM of the in-survey and the DTM of the out-survey of a dredging volume calculation? I have ArcGIS 10.2.2 with ONLY Spatial Analyst extension. If it is possible, any suggestion how to d it? Many thanks, F.

Hi Neil, I haven't got the message anymore (so probably I was doing something wrong last time). I have converted the two different bathymetry contour (from 2 different years) into raster (TOPO to Raster) and then I used a MAP Algebra > Raster Calculator to get the difference between the two rasters as Abdullah suggested. If I want to obtain the contour line of the new raster (the one which is the result of the difference), shall I have to use Spatial Analyst-surface-Contour tool? Thank you very much for all your help and have a nice weekend F.

Hi Neil, I had different projects data so yes probably last time I was dealing with raster. Currently I have some isopach data (contour lines) and I need to interpolate them. The only way I see it is possible with my licences (basic one and Spatial Analyst) and my knowledge (which is really low) is using TOPO to Raster.Once I browse my contour shp, some values are set as per default (i.e Tolerance 1 and 2, output cell size...) I do not know whether I am doing the right thing and if it is the case whether I have to set any of these fields. Please see a screenshot of the first two rows of the TOC of my isopach layer I have again bathy contour line for the same project. If I have to interpolate the value shall I have to do the same step (topo to raster)? For another project I have bathy contour from different surveys (as mentioned before) and what I want to do is the difference. As I have been suggested to convert them into raster first is the above step ok? I do not know why the Topo to raster interpolation is not working for the bathy contour of this project so I do not know whether I haven't got it.I have an error message during the interpolation when I try to do TOPO to Raster with the contours from both the surveys. Any suggestion? (the error message is the small windows that pops up at the end of the interpolation in the right bottom corner). the other interpolations (IDW, Kringing...) ask me to import points features which I do not have as they are contour line.Sorry for my very silly questions but I am struggling due to my low experience. Thanks a lot F,.

Hi Neil, I hope you are well. I finally got the Spatial Analyst extension and I have few more questions about my surface comparisons. - let's say that I have two different contour layers (from different geophysical campaign) from two different years. How can I do the comparison? Let's say that I would like to do a difference from two different bathymetry plots... - second question is: I have the Isopach contour for a particular area. How can I do the interpolation of these polyline? Thank you very much, F.

Hi Neil, thank you for coming back to me. I wish I could take a screenshot of the data, but it seems that my computer cannot open them anymore with the Notepad (probably because they are huge and my computer is almost dying). Luckily it seems I do not have to deal with these raw data anymore so for the moment I have just given up. Thank you anyway for your help Have a nice weekend F.
