Amri: the WA is set to port 7443. I believe if you plan on using https and a web adaptor, you have to do that. If you try to go through the WA in this case with just http, it will give you the 403 error. Thanks

Not unless Portal does that for you behind the scenes. I control the server. I'll guess I'll have to look at some of the IIS settings. I believe what is happening is that the WA is setup for https and that's what is causing the redirect. The piece I'm missing is how do you setup for https & http on Portal. The WA is given a port to work through, to enable https, you give it 7443. Or am I missing something here?

The other thing I forgot to mention: if you were using a browser other than IE, try using IE. There are known issues with Chrome and Firefox. Others have also reported that iIf on Win 10 and IE gives issues, try Edge. Is your AGS box setup for http/https? I have had lots of issues with being able to add an HTTP layer like you did and it will show up on a map the first time. But when I come back to the map later, I get your error message about unable to add... I did take a Dev Portal out of HTTPS only mode but after setting it up for HTTPS only, taking it out creates its own issues. Mostly web adaptor related, I think.

I have had that problem in two ways, neither of which is like yours but maybe this will give you some ideas: 1. Our Portal is set to be HTTPS only. If I "Add Item" and point to an http map service and then try to add it to a map, I can get that error. 2. When I have zipped up a file.gdb and gone through "Add Item", I have on occasion pulled that error. It is related to the Display Expression not being a Text field. That issue is documented in: Thread about Error: 001369 Best of luck.

Don't know your answer, but a suggestion if you have to go the rebuild route: setup a set of VMs on your box and install the various ArcDesktop versions you're having to support. Not optimal to just a Save As but it does allow you to run the two Data Reviewers, in essence, side by side and then see the setups, copy and paste, etc.. from one Reviewer setup to another.

Sounds like you might have some pathing issues? Look at how the data the batch runs against is defined on the PC where it runs. Then make sure the other PCs have similar setups. Is this against an EGDB? Do your various users have proper permissions for data & folder access ? I don't know if the location of the batch job file matters, but that might be an issue. Sounds like a good thing to report to support and have them work with you to verify things. Worst case, rebuild the job on the other PC and see if it doesn't run. Depending on how complex it is, this could be your easiest solution. If you have problems with that, maybe build it in stages if it is doing multiple checks.

ArcPad is very useful. But I believe that ArcPad is being deprecated in favor of Collector. Esri Blog: using-gnss-receivers-with-collector-for-arcgis/ Using Collector for high accuracy gps ArcPad official end of life, July 1, 2019 Fortunately for us, we can still get another couple of summers out of our Leica/ArcPad investment. And probably a few after that even, just without support. 🙂 We have not tried hooking up to Collector yet but probably will next summer when we do most of our field work.

Hi Michael: Yes, I believe you are correct about that. However, you can create groups in Portal that are tied to AD groups. I believe once you do this, then as you administer the AD group, so follows the Portal group. I have setup one trial group and linked it to an AD group but I haven't tried adding and removing users via AD yet. I've only allowed a few users in so far. We've setup some of the initial enterprise wide maps as being for "Everyone" which in Portal means only users authorized inside our firewalls. We'll then save the named user accounts for applications/maps that we want to limit to certain groups. BTW - thanks for the above notes on map services. What is your workflow when you update a map service pointing to either a file geodatabase or a hosted data layer? Do you stop the service first? Push the data and then restart the service? Interesting that you don't have to republish the service on a schema change. I'd always thought that was a given in order to get the new schema going in the map service. Cheers

I recently removed the HTTPS Only setting from our Development Portal's Security Setting: I needed to play with some data from our local city GIS and it's only published with HTTP. Some issues have occurred that I'm trying to understand. When I did this, I started pulling 403 Forbidden Access issues when I went to http://myFQDN/portal/home/... I realized the issue here is that my web adaptor is setup for HTTPS and I'm going through the WA. But when I try to access via the 7080 port: http://myFQDN:7080/arcgis/home/organization.html the browser immediately jumps to the https address associated with the web adaptor. Is this a function of the Portal setup files? Or is this a Browser issue? I'm using IE11, Win 7 and I've cleared the cache multiple times. Is there a Portal cache that needs clearing? Is the proper thing to do here to setup another web adaptor for the HTTP only mode? Will that then allow you to access Portal via HTTPS or HTTP via the web adaptor? I assume I just have to have a separate name for each WA as well as separate port addressing. Except, it occurs to me that Portal is not like AGS, you cannot install multiple WAs for Portal. Edit: I did this try this and it failed. Seems like once you setup a secure Web Adaptor, you're committed to that setup or do I go back to that original WA and modify it's configuration. I certainly seems that removing https only is not as simple as just unchecking the above box. This is a DEV Portal so I can try various configurations but I'd prefer to avoid total voodoo programming and have an inkling of what I'm doing and how it will come together.

Yep... Fortunately, our IT standard is IE so that simplifies it for me. I suspect it's only an HTTPS issue but I don't know that for sure. Actually, I just tested this on an HTTP/HTTPS dev Portal I have setup and it failed there. It appears it's not restricted to HTTPS only. However, this dev portal was HTTPS only until last week when I removed the HTTPS only. But the Portal interface still requires me to log into and access the Portal interface via https. But it will now read HTTP servers where before it would read an HTTP map service for the first go but then start rejecting the HTTP layers. I'm not real clear on exactly what is going with that behavior.

Is your Portal HTTPS only? Recently a number of folks, myself included, have had problems like that regarding Portal and Chrome. It is totally bizarre. I think it's related to Chrome's behind the scenes security workings and how Portal does its thing. Fingers crossed it continues to work with IE...

I recently had some similar problems of uploading zipped file.gdbs to Portal (10.4.1). We finally figured out that moving from Chrome to IE fixed the problem. This was under Win7, IE 11. Https only Portal (I suspect this is key to the issue?) Chrome is: 54.0.2840.71 m (64-bit) As I result, I'm staying away from Chrome when doing any admin work in Portal, for now at least. This was one of the most bizarre and head scratching browser incompatibilities I've ever seen. Sorry to hear Jake has had issues with IE11 but since Edge solved it, sounds like that means Win10 was involved? It would be nice to see a gotcha thread started for Portal for these types of issues (and hopefully fixes). I don't believe GeoNet has the concept of a sticky thread though, does it? Sticky if things keep being added, otherwise a thread falls off the page until touched again?

It appears that will be available in 10.5 (sorry, my insert hyperlink button is not showing up in my IE browser, so here's the raw link): http://server.arcgis.com/en/portal/10.5/use/choose-basemap.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_5C28F0CDBF184E0D96D010E37F799B27 which reads (under Create multilayer basemap): Browse to a layer that you want to move to the basemap and do the following: Modify the layer as needed. Depending on the layer type, modifications may include configuring pop-ups, changing the style, and so on. Any changes you make will persist when you move the layer to the basemap. Click More Options and click Move to Basemap .

I know this is a very late reply, but... Brett, I'm not sure how one could expect a non-spatial table to be able to use Current Extent to reduce the number of records to evaluate. Current Extent is bounding box. Your data has no spatial component so your data has no relationship to the box. There's no way for Esri to resolve this in any release. You need to get a spatial component into your data to take advantage of Current Extent. Note that some checks, such as Unique ID discussed above, require a full database search to determine uniqueness. You can't determine uniqueness by examining only a subset of a database. I suppose one could argue the case for determining uniqueness only within current extent. If you could join your data against a feature class with a spatial component then perhaps you could run a check against Current Extent without having to actually turn your data into a spatial table. I think Michelle would have to comment on if DR can run against a join.
