You all have permission to admire my first vector tile layer. https://arcg.is/158Kqj The US Contours in Feet is the layer I worked on. Based on USGS data. I have learned some things along the way but I still have many questions. First, you can see in the initial view on this map that some tiles are missing. Why? Is the package creation not reliable? Is the upload not reliable? Second, you see that all tiles disappear if you zoom higher than 14. The Vector Topo Basemap, on the other hand, is able to keep on displaying, even though it only has tiles up to level 12. How do I make this magic happen for me? I checked the style of my layer and did not see anywhere I specified a maximum zoom. I checked the style of the Topo Vector basemap and didn't see anything specific that made the magic happen, but arcgisonline seems to know to take the level 12 tiles and display them at zoom levels 13+. What is the configuration that is telling them to do that?

The WebTiledLayer class is not meant for a local MBTiles. However, I do believe you could subclass ImageTileLayer, taking care to implement GetTileDataAsync and accomplish that. Has anyone tried it?

Thank you. I guess I usually think of multilayer maps are ones that have layers on top of each other. Am I thinking correctly that once I combine these into a basemap, it can be addressed as one map in the Javascript API and Runtime mobile SDKs? Without any performance degradation?

I want to publish a vector tile layer on ArcGISOnline. I'm referring to this: Publish hosted vector tile layers—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS So if I want to publish a Vector tile service that covers the planet, am I required to have one huge .vtpk that covers the planet at once? Is there any possibility of uploading a continent or country at a time?

I want to avoid duplicating effort. Does ArcGIS Online have or intend to have one of these kinds of layers in the future. Open Street Map Vector Tiles including walking paths. Contours as vector tiles I'm also willing to work with a third party that is doing this. I know there are vendors like openmaptiles.com and MapBox but apparently, that's no good because ArcGIS Runtime will only work with Vector Tiles from ArcGIS servers or created with their tools.

This is a lot of the information I need. From that, it looks like I can at least experiment with custom styles with my ArcGIS Online account. It appears that if you are extra careful to only use simple styles when authoring the map, what it looks like on the screen in ArcGIS desktop will be recorded as the stylesheet. Just some clarifications. When the future functionality is released, you will be able to have n*custom styles located outside the vtpk file, or all baked in? I assume it will need a new version of the Runtime. At present, can ArcGIS Desktop tools (Basic) create .vtpk files from Vector Tile Services on the ArcGIS portal?

I certainly hope that is soon, because it defeats the purpose of stylesheets. Duplicate 5gig of data to change a 5k stylesheet is cumbersome. Offline maps are the ones that benefit the most from flexible styles. But as for the other question, how do the stylesheets get into the VTPK? Where does one make those style choices? I don't see anything in those instructions that say to edit or create a stylesheet in the process of exporting a VTPK.

I will note that this article. Create Vector Tile Package—Data Management toolbox | ArcGIS Desktop Does not mention a thing about stylesheets nor show anywhere to choose or edit them. So perhaps even having multiple .vtpk won't work.

I think one of the values of the Vector tiles is that you can customize the style without changing the tiles, right? But how do I actually do that? In particular, offline? Looking at the documentation for ArcGISVectorTiledLayer, you seemed to have locked all that out. There is no method called setStyle(String pathtolocalfile). I knew it wouldn't be that easy. I found this in the API documentation. It needs a mind mapping diagram, but I believe that you are able to specify a style sheet in a portal based map. So I guess I could do that if I create my own vector tile server on ArcGIS online. But I couldn't specify a different style sheet for one of your standard vector basemaps, or could I? I made a table just to try to understand it, and I see at least one circular reference. This also states that a vector tile package should contain a style sheet and all the font and symbols needed to display the map. So let's see. Let's say I created a 5 Gigabyte vector tile package of a country. If I wanted to change the style, I would need to create another 5 Gigabyte vector tile package of the same country, exactly the same except with a different style sheet. Is that right? I'll note that I don't see any offline vector tile layer examples, nor any sample .vtpk file. I think that's needed. To create a vector tiled layer, the runtime client is given either a URI or a portal item. The URI can point to a vector tile source, a vector tile style sheet, or a local vector tile package file. The portal item will contain a URI to a vector tile stylesheet. The style sheet describes the appearance of the geometry and must be in the Mapbox GL Style format. The style sheet also contains a URI to a vector tile source. The source must be in the Mapbox TileJSON format. The source info includes a URI to a default style sheet. More than one vector tile style sheet can use the same source. Both the source info and the style sheet are human readable JSON files. Vector tile packages can also be downloaded from an ArcGIS Online vector tile service. The vector tile package is a single file (.vptk) that contains all of the tile data files, the source information, a style sheet, and the font and symbol marker resources required to display the map. Parameter Points to Contains points to Header 5 URI vector tile source MapBoxTileJSON Format URL default style sheet vector tile stylesheet Mapbox GL Style Format URI vector tile source local vector tile package All the tile data files Source information vector tile stylesheet font and symbols. I need some guidance about what some of the licensing levels mean in practical terms. I'll try to be direct. These are some things added in the Standard licensing (which I don't currently enjoy, I'm in Lite). Access to additional data Local raster layers Local raster elevation sources ArcGIS Runtime raster functions (for local rasters and rasters from image services) So does this mean: A. I can use the RasterLayer(Item) and RasterLayer(Raster) because they use Raster services, but I could not use the Constructor RasterLayer(String path) because it is a "Local path to a raster data source." I could also not use the Raster(string) construction because it is a Raster source. Therefore I could not expect to display a Geotiff that is on the mobile device storage. Right? B. I guess this means I couldn't use RasterElevationSource because it takes a list of filenames. So I couldn't just download a bunch of elevation files from Nasa and use them. I could, however, use ArcGISTiledElevationSource(Uri) and ArcGISTiledElevationSource(Item). But what about ArcGISTiledElevationSource(TileCache)? That could presumably read from a TPK file, and I could get that from an ArcGIS Desktop user. Or maybe even find an ElevationSource that supports export? Without that, it would be impossible to look up elevation or do 3D terrain views offline. C. Does that third part mean I can't use anything in the Esri.ArcGISRuntime.Rasters namespace?

But does Geotiff work if I don't have a Standard license or above? That makes a difference. My customers are consumers, not professionals. They would not be paying for a Standard license.

What Antti looks like the information I need. I'll get these instructions to the contractor and try this again. Since then, I've implemented something that uses MobileMapDownload. I've found that mmpk files can contain one or more .geodatabase files inside them. I don't think it is realistic for me to expect many public feature servers to have sync enabled or allow all their layers to be taken offline. So the desktop model is the way to go, and apparently under the right conditions an ArcGIS Pro user can get me an mmpk file and an ArcMap user can get me a .geodatabase file.

It looks like the save methods of Map are meant to save to a PortalItem, not locally. I'd need a Basic license for that, so that's out for a consumer grade app. Maybe this is some of the information I am looking for: Features and graphics—ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET | ArcGIS for Developers Since mobile geodatabases are read only in my licensing level, I was looking for the right way to store user data in the form of lines, points, and shapes. It will probably come from a local SQLite file, though it might be Spatialite if I can swing it. The best option I could come up with is to continually refresh the data in a Graphics Overlay (or a bunch of FeatureTables) whenever the map view changes by querying the SQLite database for things that need to be drawn. It appears that FeatureTables are meant for persistence, but only in ways that my licensing doesn't allow. So that difference disappears. So perhaps I go by which one is easier to code.

While the ArcGIS World Topographic Map (raster) has contours, the Vector World Topographic Map does not. Contours seem like a good use case for Vector Tiles, but they are not there. Lest you say that it has contours, try this. https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?useExisting=1&layers=86d5ed4b6dc741de9dad5f0fbe09ae95 This web map you reference contains the *raster* topographic map AND the vector topographic map. The contours are definitely in the raster part. On that page, push the basemap button and change the basemap to "Light Gray Canvas". The contours will disappear. === What is intended if you want to show contours with it? Is there another source for them? Are they there and just not styled in? I wanted to hear the thoughts from ArcGISOnline before I start creating my own world contour vector tiled map. I don't wish to duplicate effort.
