On hindsight this thread should probably be in import/export... anyway any news on those files that are causing my CE to close? It seems I can't import any kmz file, every one I've tried instantly shuts down CE, so as a result it gets very frustrating! Hi .. I had sent you a mail with a first reply on Oct 25th .. Let me know if you did not get it .. 🙂

Hi ! The further discussion via mail was the following: 1] Update to the very latest graphics card driver. 2] Deactivate Shadows and Ambient Occlusion in the viewport settings menu since they slow down the rendering 3] The graphics card driver crashes if the viewportport takes longer than 1-2 seconds to render ( ~ 0.5 fps refresh rate ). CE (and all other OpenGL-enabled applications at the same time) is crashed due to a timeout of the graphics card driver itself, so there's not really something we can do other than to try and prevent that the fps drops below 1fps. Let me know if this makes sense .. Matt

Hi ! 1] Sadly, there's no screenshot. Can you re-post it ? 2] Instead of using CGA to texture your building, did you try the new Shape Texturing Tool ? This may be easier to use, especially if you are using different images on all sides of a Shape. And you can edit the placement rather interactively. See how to use it also in the tutorial 14 videos .. http://video.arcgis.com/watch/1782/tutorial-14a-basic-polygonal-modeling http://video.arcgis.com/watch/1783/tutorial-14b-advanced-polygonal-modeling http://video.arcgis.com/watch/1784/tutorial-14c-combining-polygonal-modeling-with-rules Or of course, check the Manual: CityEngine Help > Manual > Shapes > Creating and Editing Shapes Manually Let me know ..

Haha, no magic at all. Lot -->
A. copies the shape of Lot to A. Lot -->
B. copies to B, logically. If you write Lot -->
A.
B. the shape coming from Lot is copied to A. and duplicated to B. So there's 2 copies of on top of each other. test this with Lot -->
alignScopeToAxes(y)
A.
t(0,10,0)
B. Please watch all Tutorial videos, find them here: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/64843-CityEngine-Collection-RESOURCES-FAQ-HELP Especially, the CGA basics are explained, see tuto 6. Matt

Hi ! The system gives you at the moment only what you see, there's no options. The system uses complex heuristics on what the user might be interested in, but obviously, not all cases are solved properly yet.. Our developer is continuously working on the thing, so chances are great we'll see great improvements (even though most stuff is invisible 🙂 ) Matt

Hi Joanne ! Thanks for your inputs ! I have forwarded them to the according people. Just in short concerning the Facade Wizard: The Facade Wizard basically only works properly on vertical, rectangular shapes. If the shapes are trapezoid, the shapes will nevertheless be split according to the FW rules, but the resulting shapes remain trapezoid. At specific points in the Facade Wizard code, cubes are inserted for the texturing, this will in the end result in that stairstepping on the borders. Inevidable currently. Thus, for the non-rectangular shapes, you'll have create some custom code to adapt to this if you need more complex geometries other than just the flat-textured shape itself. Matt

Hi ! In the Lot rule, you have a copy of the shape defined with 'Building'. Try deleting this line and check how this works out. Let me know.. M.

Ah, yes. You can easily model this building with the brand new Polygonal Shape Modeling tool. Draw the footprint, extrude it and move those 2 edges on the roof back to get those angles. Note that this tool is a SHAPE modeling tool, so you model the input Shape for CGA. This means that you don't need any more extrude() in CGA for example, rather just the alignScopeToAxes(y) and the comp() to get directly to the facade shapes. Check the tool's tutorials project data here, including the link to the videos: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=c930635e31ee4c5298a82c8f4be013b8 Fun, huh ? 🙂

Hi ! That seems indeed to be a proxy login issue. We're currently in the preparations of a possible SR, it's not yet sure when that would be available. If so, proxy testing will be an important task. This then should fix your issue. Thanks for reporting your issue. Meanwhile, use the workaround.. Matt

Hey and welcome to the Forum. If you want to export the models with the attributes, you can do this, but only if you export to .gdb. To do so, you have to report the attrs in CGA code. Check the tutorials on reporting. If you want to export the attrs to an other file format such as FBX, it is not possible at the moment other than writing out the metadata to a text file, as described in the Script Based Export Tutorial. Let me know .. Matt

Hi ! Just a side note. In the exporter, there's a dropdown which defines this behavior: The default is that if no rule is assigned, the shapes themselves are exported as if they were a model. Cheers ! 😉

Hi ! There are some issues still with the AGOL access and we're thinking about tackling these issues shortly. Did you sign into AGOL inside CE ? If this all fails, you still can manually upload your 3ws scenes to your AGOL account as described in my post of October 16th 2012 here: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/68174-downloading-tutorials-and-examples Let me know if this helps ! matt

It could be most helpful for those wanting to discover possible rule approaches to solve their required outcomes. That's what I'm here for .. 😉 And yes .. there's many possibilities to do things in CGA. It just takes time to stumple upon them. Have fun !

Hi Joanne and Scott. Yes, this concern is addressed in future and this is just the first version of the tool .. 🙂 What would be really insightful for us here is to get precise inputs on how you think the tool should 'behave', based on your 'real world' use cases, so we can build on those inputs. (Sketches, images of target buildings, .. all welcome.) Existing static models should not have an influence at all. Please send me a series of steps you take to reproduce the problem if it really happens. * * * Concerning the 'normal view' of the rooftop polygons, not sure what causes this issue. Did you try flying into the building with the cam and check the inside ?
