Hi Nathan, Yes, this is possible. You can map ANY attribute value that way. That's the beauty of it. 😉 Nice, huh ? It's best you play with those tutorial files ( they're downloadable ). M.

Hi ! If you embed the information in textures, you can port the information. If it's just colorized polygons in ArcGlobe, that is not supported. Let me know.. M.

Hi Matt, Thanks for the encouraging words. We believe this fits in very well with the rapidly evolving "GeoDesign" thinking at ESRI. Please do keep us informed of opportunities about appropriate conferences where we can demo and discuss this and future iterations. We see immense potential. Thanks, Greg Hey .. No problem. I forwarded your PM to the appropriate people, so all's on it's best way. 😉 M.

Hi ! Rules created with the Facade Wizard are meant to work on 2D faces ( single polygons ), not extruded volumes. I see that your window objects are full (thin ) 3d volumes. This causes some issues of course. What's inside or outside is defined by the 'normal' of the polygon. You can turn the normal to the other side by using the 'reverseNormals' operation. But since ArcGIS does not really store topological information, bringing all that information over from ArcGIS can be a bit tricky. Instead of bringing over a floor plan, I'd recommend to bring over 3d MultiPatches ( 1 polygon thick ), which represent 1 object, e.g. a wall, a window, .. Then, assign a rule which constructs the geometry based on that 1 polygon and the rule. Note that you can set the following 2 GIS attributes to automatically assign rule file and start rule. ruleFile (string, e.g. "rules/wall.cga") startRule (string, e.g. "Wall" ) That way, after the GDB import, you don't have to assign the rules any more. You could even create an attribute for the normal reversing process. e.g. doReverse ( boolean, true / false) then in the CGA code, use that GIS attribute. In short : You're much better off to import vertical flat shapes instead of the floor plan. Let me know if this all makes sense. Matt

Hi ! CityEngine is a procedural modeling application. Thus, the result of the work with CityEngine is a 3d model, which you export. For this export, we have different file formats, depending on the CE version. CE Basic : obj, 3ds, (vob) CE Advanced : fbx, dae One of those you can use to import the stuff in Blender. Ok ? Matt

Hi ! Sorry for the dumb question, but are you displaying the 'Models' object type ? [toggle F12 key] it could be a problem that the tree assets are not centered around the cartesian origin ( asset's own coordinate values). Let me know .. Matt

Hi, Would it be possible that you send me a PM with your mail address and you then send me a stripped-down CE project archive ( zip ), on which I can reproduce the issue ? If it's a bug, I'll have to reproduce it here anyway. Let me know if this is possible. Matt

Hi, Thanks for the detailed feedback. Indeed, it is not easy to keep everyone happy all the time. CityEngine is still such a young application and indeed has still some workflow things which need to be ironed out, but we're working hard on that part. Especially hard is of course prioritizing tickets to find a good balance. More training materials are gradually produced, but this takes a lot of time. We'll try to incorporate the feedbacks you've given, as I am doing it all the time also with the other posts on the Forums here. Thanks again & kind greetings from Zurich ! Matt

Hi ! You're mixing 2 things in your code. You're calling a facade rule ( which works only on 2d faces ) on a 3d volume, thus you cut the volume only in 1 direction. You're missing the comp(f). Note there's a big difference between the following 2 strategies, which you're mixing : 1] - Extrude to full height ( Create 1 extruded, simple 3d Volume ) - comp(f) Facades / Roof 2] Recursively add single floor volumes on top of each other until a certain goal ( FAR ) is reached. Note : In this 2nd approach, you only create 1 roof on top of the top most volume. Note : Each floor volume's facade created that way is logically only 1 floor high. Also, try to structure the code flow nicely. But most importantly, make VERY sure on what you work : 3d volumes or 2d faces ( comp(f) ). Check out that thread too : http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/44417-CGA-Understanding-the-concept-of-the-scope Ok ? Matt

Hi, In by far most cases, complexity is no problem. If so, you get errors in the CGA problems view. E.g. with too many recursions. Check also the docs on the Grammar Core's 'max derivation depth' and ~width settings. How many polygons do you create per building ? Can you export single buildings successfully ? Let me know .. m.
