Hi, Yes, that should work. Have a look at the insert operation i() and the sciFi city example we have. The Obj and Dae file formats are our 3d asset file formats, so you should be able to instanciate as many of those buildings in your specific urban layouts. I don't see any problems there. matt

Hi, That's certainly done with using a 'iFrame' string as the attribute. I never did this myself, but maybe search this Forum or google on iFrame strings. Ok ? m.

Hi, The graphics card is not used in the creation of the WebScene. So you can not use the graphics card to create such a scene faster. You only use the graphics card to display a WebScene. So the faster your graphics card, the more fluid it is displayed. Those are 2 different things. 🙂 A good graphics card would be any NVIDIA graphics card. I usually recommend GeForce models, e.g. GeForce GTX 670 and newer. E.g. everything >=1 GB onboard RAM ( Video Ram ). ok ? m.

hi, once the stuff is in CE, there's no limitation to go to a WebScene. 1] make sure your images are not downscaled during export ( check the 2nd WebScene export dialog precisely ) 2] WebScenes are displayed with no double sided rendering. Means backsides are not rendered for efficiency. Could this be the issue ? Let me know. m.

Hi matt, is there a way to set a Block Parameter through CGA? Hi orgologo, No : Because, First comes the 'Shape Creation' process, then you assign CGA rule to the shapes (to generate the models). The 'Dynamic City Layouts' system is used to create shapes. Part of that process is the Block Subdivision. CGA simple takes a shape and it's attributes to process the model, but CGA cannot edit or change that 'initial state'. The actual attribute values can come from different sources, such as 'rule', 'object attribute' ( of the shape ), 'user', or 'mapped' via a layer, as discussed in this thread. @BTLeslie : I'll try to create an example which exemplifies this, ok ? Hi, there's a compass in the viewport available. Activate it via d,a ( also check the viewport display settings cogwheel menu ) as far as I remember, in the code, the orientation of the cars are either 0 or 1 ( right or left lane ). But you may want to be more precise, so report the same position as the actual car. search for i(), where the actual car is inserted on the geometry. the orientation is actually defined by the alignment of the scope to the split street geometry, but you can get the world orientation (cartesian grid) with the convert() function. Please watch the video here, it'll help to track down where the cars are inserted, using the 'Model Hierarchy' : http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/44417-CGA-Understanding-the-concept-of-the-scope Ok ? CE supports all projected coordinate systems, but as geographic ones only WGS84. Well, I'm no specialist in that field. 😉 Maybe it's best that you send me a test set of the data ? m.

Hi Sean, A few notes: Distributing buildings on a Lot can be done in an infinite variation, so that process is a design process. No computer and no software can calculate a 'good' solution, so I usually say all design processes shall be done manually. --> in CE : Design --> Statistics = ok ! Statistics --> Design = not ok ! Designing is an iterative process and the CGA model generation starts at one point and ends somewhere, so you have basically 1 iteration for a given set of attributes. But testing for the 'best' combination is an endless endeavor, so CE cannot do this for you, sadly. 😉 I'd recommend you do the following : Write some Lot subdivision code which includes convexify() and some dimension/area checks to make sure that buildings do not overlap. e.g. Lot -->
convexify(100)
.. From there, play with splitting these shapes with different approaches ( stripes, .. ) which give you a realistic distribution. Then, add some reporting to compare the resulting geometry values with the target values. I'm honest that CGA is not the best tool for realistic 'per shape' parcelling tasks, but I've done some tests in past that give you good results. Let me know if that 'theory' makes sense so far .. m.

That can not be solved with CGA since CGA starts with a given shape. Shape-Shape interactions cannot be done with CGA. Either, you'd have to use Python or preprocess the data in ArcGIS / FME. Note that points have no orientation and that CE creates little rectangular shapes, which are oriented in XZ ( XY in GIS terminology ) coordinates - means along the world axes. So I'd recommend you work with all the rotation values preprocessed. Let me know if you're an ArcGIS user or not. If not, I could help with Python. Matt

hi ! yes, this is possible. I'd create multiple different attributes : 1] Create a map layer for each attribute, means 1 image for each attribute. 2] Then, point the attr source of each block to that map layer. e.g. the actual block subdivision type parameter would be pointing to a map layer with 1 image Try to make this work for e.g. the height of extruded buildings as in the map control tutorial, then progress to driving all params, ok ? m.
