Does esri have an intention on revisiting swing? I personally prefer swing to JavaFx and have never successfully fielded an application using JavaFx technology. However, I have been successful in deploying good location applications using both the 100.3 .net and the java 10.2.4 SDKs. I have been wanting to revisit the esri JavaFx development kit but after looking through oracle's client roadmap JavaFx has been moved to open source and swing is going to be actively developed and supported at least through 2026. A long time ago, my first development revolved around using Adobe's Flash technology and for those of us old enough to remember, it fizzled out once Apache got its hands on it, which seems like this is where JavaFx is heading. So, it's nice that 10.2.4 is going to be supported for another year but it would be even sweeter if 100.X could have swing support. It is my firm belief that JavaFX will die. Any thoughts? https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/the-future-of-javafx-and-other-java-client-roadmap-updates

I have a problem. When I use my java runtime application that accesses an AGOL hosted feature service it becomes unreachable once I use Cisco AnyConnect VPN. What is worse, is that once I disable or quit the VPN service I still don't have access to AGOL hosted services. I have to reboot my computer to get re-establish a connection Web map applications do work while Cisco is connected but runtime applications fail. Cisco AnyConnect is needed on my field machines to access unrelated files and corporate email. What gives and how do I fix this? Tom

Finally I see some discussion on this topic. I am going through a similar problem. I have automated the overwrite of the service definition of a feature service, but every time it is overwritten it resets the 'maxRecordCount' back to the default value of 1000. As you say, this then defeats the purpose of automating since I have to manually upload the service so it allows 50,000 records to be queried at REST. I am doing this through AGOL -- any idea how to tailor this part: portalAdminName = 'gisadmin' # Gisserver login
portalAdminPassword = 'xxxxxxx' # gisserver password
serverName = 'gisserver' # Server Name
serverPort = 6080 # Port number of the server ...to allow for log in and edit of a service on an AGOL organizational account? I have tried: but I am getting an error on the httpConn request saying "getaddrinfo failed". Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated, otherwise it looks like a call to Esri is in store. Thanks.

When I query a feature layer I have been getting a sample error on some of the fields. I did not have this problem with the old java SDK. Originally, I tested this class by getting data from an AGOL secure service and ran into problems with retrieving half of the fields. So to simplify the test I used esri's sample service and got the same results. Below is a simple class that prints out the values in a row. However when I try to get the <state_abbr> data the program fails. Esri, please help me on this. Thanks

I am able to display the device location of my surface pro as long as I have an internet connection. I would like to be able to show a GPS position using the nifty animation on the same device but the coordinates and heading would be coming from a local socket (port) from a GPS device. Is there anyway to so this. I looked at the GPS demo and the program generates a moving animation from parsing a GPS file. So this should be possible to do. I have written the code that gets the heading, late, and lon but I have no idea how to set the coordinates and pass in the location so that the program would use my data and not the data from the device. Help please.

I am interested in the JavaFX source code that was demoed at the 2017 UC. Did anyone receive the source and would be willing share it? It would be very helpful for me to use it as a reference while I re-write a runtime application with the new Quartz SDK. Thanks, Tom

I am wondering how to return the results of a result set from a query against an online feature service. The example code for FeatureLayerQuerySample.java does work for returning a single result. Of course the reason is for the if condition. However, if I change the query to query.setWhereClause("objectid < 10") ; and modify the if to a while loop, I will only get one object id when I should have multiple. Additionally, the while loop never stops. What am I missing? while (result.iterator().hasNext()) { // was an if statement // get state feature and zoom to it Feature feature = result.iterator().next(); System.out.println(feature.getAttributes().get("objectid")); Is there a bug? I really want to start using this SDK but I am constantly running into problems. The online query in the last java release works but is somewhat cumbersome and I have a requirement to transfer some of the data of my online feature services into a database or flat file so another application can consume my GIS table data. I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 and have had many problems with GeoEvent since I upgraded to 10.5. First, I could not update a hosted feature service and spent many hours (3 weeks) trying to troubleshoot it, however, patch 1 fixed that issue. Now, testing out notification alerts based on an idle time is not working. this same test worked in 10.4. Is there another bug or am I missing something. My model is as follows 1) Poll a feature service every 10 seconds 2) Connect the idle detector - set on continuous with max idle of 300 sec 3) Email notification - Esri I need to know if there are more bugs in the new 10.5 version. I moved from Server for Workgroup 10.4 to Enterprise Server 10.5 so I can't go back. I am also worried that if I spend the time creating custom processors that they won't work either. Please look into this or can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks, Tom

Well, I searched support a found out a patch for GEP 10.5 was released. On my first attempt installed the patch and I could not restart my GeoEvent service. So, I uninstalled then reinstalled (GEP) and then stopped both the ArcGIS Server and GEP while I re-installed the patch. Fired them both back up and wolla, worked perfect. No problems updating my service. Here is the link ArcGIS GeoEvent Server 10.5 Patch 1

FYI, the process is to run the back end scripts that modify the data in local geodatabase and once the models and scripts are complete you push the mxd up to the cloud and overwrite the hosted service. I find that I can get this option to work in every 30 second cycles. For my purposes 30 seconds is good enough but that is the limitation with the script. On the other hand, it is a lot easier to get custom data into the feature using python rather than the GeoEvent SDK. For the time being I am using python code to update my hosted feature service. It is not a solid solution but I have been getting by using python. Here is the link. If you solve this please let me known. This issue has been a major thorn in my side. I spent one month on trying to solve this with no luck except I can add features to the existing hosted feature but I can't just update them. No, but strangely I am able to add features but not update. I had to write some python code to overwrite the hosted feature service from a local gdb and map document. It works for now, but I can't update my hosted service faster than 30 seconds. Not a long term solution. I will reach out again to esri support next week.
