Thank you Asrujit. If we temporarily Grant sysadmin to my windows login, and then revoke after the GDB is created, will I still be able to perform the full range of geodatabase admin tasks (as DB_Owner)?

Thanks Bill.. did as you said and still getting the same error. It seems to want to create the GDB using the SDE schema, or at least I don't see an option to use DBO when using this workflow.

Having issues when creating a GDB in Sql Server 2016. We're trying the method where our SQL dba creates an empty database or container, and the GDB admin (aka me) enables a geodatabase using DBO schema. Some specifics: My client: Desktop 10.5.1 Sql Server Native Client: version 9.00 Authorization file: keycodes from an ArcServer 10.2.2 instance Sql Server: version #13.0.4435.0 Database: Read Committed & Allow Snapshot enabled. DB Security: User matching my OS creds created, and given DB_Owner role. Steps so far: 1. In Catalog, Added a Database Connection to the empty database 2. Right-clicked database connection file, and clicked Enable Geodatabase... 3. Process errored out. Here's the contents of the sde_setup.log: [Fri Oct 06 12:09:21 2017] Error creating VERSION table. (-51) [Fri Oct 06 12:09:21 2017] DBMS error code: 2760 [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server][SQL Server]The specified schema name "sde" either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it. [Fri Oct 06 12:09:21 2017] SDE schema object install not completed. [Fri Oct 06 12:09:21 2017] ERROR installing/upgrading ArcSDE, Error = -51 Any thoughts? We are ready to have my login added as a SysAdmin on the Sql Server, if that is the best way to create a GDB with DBO schema.

Is there any method for replacing a service definition in AGOL for a hosted feature service, if the SD is accidentally deleted? This is a feature service that is updated/overwritten weekly. Thanks for any suggestions!

Excellent, thanks for the insight Rebecca. Our SDE is setup with the DBO schema, so sounds like we may end up troubleshooting some different things than what you're seeing. We have a Dev Server we'll use to test restoring the DB to, and I'll do as you suggest by moving it first and then test upgrading. I'll make a note to report back once we have some results.

Thanks Jayanta, I have looked at that document which is great for the upgrade portion. So, would you recommend upgrading the DB before or after migrating it to Sql2016?

We are upgrading an enterprise GDB from 10.2.2 to 10.5, and also migrating the db from SqlServer 2012 to 2016. What is the best workflow for upgrading And migrating an enterprise GDB? Should we upgrade the GDB in place before migrating to a new SqlServer?

Anyone else been able to successfully move annotation using arcobjects? I'm trying to create an ArcMap add-in where geodatabase annotation can be selected and aligned with other features (annotation, lines, etc). I'm running into the same issue as Wes - I can move the polygon but not the text.

Hello, I'm using the web appbuilder Search Widget (not Robert's Extended Search widget) to set up an attribute search on our parcel layer. This is a hosted feature layer, with about 110k polygons, and only 3 attributes. It is projected using WGS84 Web Mercator (wkid 3857). When I search using the widget, the feature is found, a highlighted copy of the feature is drawn in the graphics layer, the map zooms in and the popup window is added. All that sounds great, But here are the problems: The feature in the graphics layer is a 'generalized' copy of the original feature, and does not align well, especially with complex polygons. The map zooms in way too far, past the extent of the feature being returned. The status wheel in the lower right of the application (new at WAB 2.1), does not stop spinning indicating some sort of error. Opening the console reveals the error (this error occurs every time I try to search): TypeError: Unable to draw graphic (null): b[0].geometry.getCenter is not a function Has anyone else observed similar behaviors from the Search Widget? Thank you for any insights.

Very good, thank you Alex. In that case, how does the licensing aspect work? Is the licensing information baked into the geodatabase, or is there some validation going on against a codefile or other service? Is there an online resource you could point me to that helps define how licensing works with enterprise GDBs? Thanks!

Hello, We are planning to replace our ArcSDE Server instance (VM server) with another, and wondering what system-specs are recommended. Our current server has 4.00 GB RAM and a single 2.0 GHz Processor. Is this sufficient? From my understanding once the geodatabase is setup on the RDBMS, the SDE server is more of a background process for license validation, etc, and not directly involved with Client::Server traffic. Is this correct? We are currently experiencing latency and slow performance with our 10.2.2 geodatabase in a 2012 SQL environment. Our plan is to create a new 10.4.1 GDB hosted in 2014 SQL, load the data onto the new and then abandon the old. This will give us an opportunity to increase the specs on the SQL server, as well as align the GDB version with our Desktop version (10.4.1). The question remains for me, what impact does the ArcSDE Server play in this scenario... Does it have potential to be a bottleneck? Thank you

Robert, I have tried with other polygon layers. I thought maybe it was due to the projection (State Plane), but I just tried with a polygon Feature Layer projected in Web Mercator and it has the same issue. The layer I'm trying to use is our county's taxlots, which has about 100k features... not sure if there's a limitation with number of records..
