Yes, one of the downsides of continual and long upgrade paths, i.e., not all of the former functionality plays nice in the upgraded environment. My guess is that you are correct, and that only views registered with the old SDE command line tools show up as version-able. Recreating them might take a little time upfront, but having consistency in your environments has a lot of value.

arcpy.Describe.canVersion() is returning True for some of your views? I can't say I tested all of our views, but I tested a random sampling across half a dozen enterprise geodatabases, and it always returned False. I wonder under what conditions canVersion() returns True for a database view.

Although the screenshot may be helpful, seeing the actual Python code you are using is really necessary to comment any further.

The first part of your request, if I understand it, seems straightforward enough, but I don't get the threshold condition. You state if the population values in the rows becomes 500 (do you mean exactly 500?), then the next row's value is either zero or some difference. Well, which is it, zero or the difference? Can you present an example like the one above but showing the 500 threshold value in action?

In addition to the documentation that Freddie Gibson references, which I strongly encourage everyone to read, I also strongly encourage people to read the Foreground and background processing documentation. When using in_memory within ArcMap/ArcCatalog (ugh, I wish I could go back to just saying ArcGIS Desktop or Desktop), in_memory doesn't always mean in-memory when background processing is enabled.

It is helpful if you can include your code, at least the functional parts like the calls to start the define the edit session, start it, stop it, etc.... Also, are you working with cursors within the edit session or Geoprocessing tools?

My guess is something is happening along the way with "#Operations on blocks" and arcpy.NumPyArrayToRaster() may not be returning a valid array. I would do some debugging of myRasterBlock before saving it, e.g., insert some print statements to print out properties of the raster. Also, print out filetemp . If you could include the results of those print statements, it might help people provide more feedback.

Of all the ArcPy-related changes between ArcMap/ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Pro, the Mapping module has the most ground to cover since it deals with the UI and that is completely different between the two products. There are still plenty of mapping and cartographic features, outside of ArcPy, that haven't made it into Pro yet.

I haven't noticed any issues/differences between ArcGIS Pro and ArcCatalog connecting to SQL Server, at least not yet. Is it just connecting to browse data or is the data access slow once loaded in ArcGIS Pro? Are ArcGIS Pro and ArcCatalog installed on the same machine? What kinds of numbers are you seeing, specifically? Roughly how many tables are in the SQL Server database?

It has been a while since I mixed versions of Esri software on the same machine. I recall it technically working, but I also believe Esri would recommend not doing it. Regarding Python, ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS for Server each have their own, separate Python installations. Since ArcGIS for Desktop is a 32-bit application and ArcGIS for Server is a 64-bit application, the former has a 32-bit Python installation while the latter has a 64-bit Python installation. When using the same version of software, there is a potential overlap in Python installations when 64-bit Background Geoprocessing is installed for ArcGIS for Desktop because it uses a 64-bit Python installation as well. In this case with different versions of software, the Python installation versions will be different as well. From a Python perspective, you will have 2 or 3 separate installations depending on whether you installing 64-bit Background Geoprocessing. The Python installations are mostly self-contained, so having multiple ones shouldn't affect any given one from working. That said, Windows can only do Python file-type associations for a single Python installation, so you will have to be careful about which Python installation is being used when running a Python script using default file-type association. Also, make sure you are aware of what Python installation your Python IDEs are pointing to since you have multiple ones on the same machine.

It helps to give specific error messages/text instead of just saying you got a "fairly generic error about pipes." There could be many things going on, have you tried anything else besides just connecting with SSMS? Can you ping the server IP address? Do the servers run firewalls that may be blocking the connections? My guess, though, the Network Protocol isn't configured for correctly. Check the network protocol configurations on both the client and server.

If you haven't done so already, it would be good to review the System tables of a geodatabase in SQL Server documentation. Particularly, the GDB_ITEMS table and documentation field.
