Hi, I have a big polyline dataset for which I want to create polygons. I have been trying to run the 'feature to polygon' tool but it keeps failing with a 'Topoengine error'. I have tried 'Check geometry' and 'Repair geometry' and the geometry looks okay. How can I successfully create the polygon from this line feature? Any advise? Thanks, Tilo

Hi, So, I have a raster image with 15 arcsecond resolution. I want to be able to extract roads and other linear features from it using ArcGIS. or any other extensions which are compatible with ArcGIS. Anyone can suggest how to go about it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tilo

Hi, I have been trying to create a buffer of 12 nautical miles for the Indoensia shapefile which I have, and this is the fourth time it failed. The error that I am getting is 'internal processing failure'. It is taking 7 to 8 hours to run and then it fails! There are no topological errors in the shapefile (I checked on that specifically). I don't know what is causing the failure. I have also tried creating the buffer without dissolving it. It ran successfully but actually the output could not be drawn, which means that it was actually not done successfully! Now, I have split the shapefile and trying to create the buffers separately, then will merge them, and then try dissolve. Don't know if this will work too. Anyone has faced this? Any ideas or solutions? Thanks! Tilo

Hi Jayanta, Thanks so much. I used the method suggested by you and could close all the dangles and complete the polygon. Thanks very much, Tilo

Hi Xander, Thanks for the great suggestion. I did try this method too. Helped quite a bit. Thanks! I used the topology correction (Jayanta's suggestion) to close the dangles. Thanks so much! Tilottama

Hi, I have NGA shoreline polyline shapefile of Indoneisa. I have modified it by adding two lines to close the polygons, so that I can create a polygon of my area of interest. However, there are numerous waterbodies which are drawn in the shapefile, and when I am trying to create a polygon from the polyline, a closed polygon is not being created. I tried dissolving the polylines but that didn't help either. Any ideas on how to do it? Otherwise, I will have to manually delete the polylines which are interrupting in the creation of the polygon. I am attaching a portion of shapefile I am working with (the complete one is too big to be attached here). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tilottama

Hi Xander, Thanks a lot for your detailed solution. I will surely try it. However, if you could please let me know how to create the polylines at the specific latitudes and longitudes like you have done in the first step. Thanks, Tilottama

Hi Dan, Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, there is no polygon land mass file. That would have made the work so much more easy. Thanks, Tilottama

Hi, I have downloaded the NGA shoreline data which is in a polyline form. I need to create a RASTER land sea mask with this data. The X,Y resolution of the data should be 0.0041666667, 0.0041666667. However, some of the polylines are not getting converted to rasters if the resolution is kept as such. The easiest way would be to convert the polyline to a polygon and then polygon to raster. However, this is not working, as there are small islands which are being left out, etc. So, I tried converting the polyline to a line raster, and was then trying to create a land-sea mask. However, everything inside as well as outside the polygon is assigned as 'No Data'. So, I am unable to create the mask. Any ideas? I am attaching the shapefile of one of the blocks with this mail. Please note the world shoreline data is divided into blocks, so some of the polygons maybe open ended for this block. Thanks in advance, Tilottama

Hi M, Thanks for your reply. I tried with the code block you had sent. However, I was not able to make it work. I tried running the code selecting the 'type' as string. I am attaching a word document which shows the code as I ran it and the error in the Geoproessing result window. Could you please point out my mistake? Thanks again for your help. I will look forward to your reply. Best Regards, Tilo

Hi, I am trying python scripting for the first time and couldn't achieve what I am trying to do. So, I have five types of Landcover - Drain, Lake, River, Water Body, and Canal. I want to name all of these 'Water'. I figured that I could do it with this small script- !LANDCOVER!.replace("River","Water") in Field Calculator. But, I would want to do all of them together using a python script in the 'Field Calculator'. I tried with some if, else statements, but they didn't work. Can someone please help me with this? I will look forward to your response. Thanks in advance, Tilottama

Hi, I have a road shapefile with five 'types' of roads - Highway, Expressway, Arterial, Major, and Minor road. In model builder I have been able to use 'Iterate Feature Selection' and separate all the different types of roads. Now, I want to intersect each road with itself, and also each road with all the other types of roads. The outputs should be in points. When I am including the output of the model and the intersect tool, it is giving me the intersection points of each of the different types of roads with itself, but not with the other types of roads. An example of what I want to do is- Intersect- Highway with itself Highway with Expressway Highway with Arterial Highway with Major Highway with Minor. This process has to repeat (iterative) for all the five types of roads. How can I do it in model builder? Which tool/tools can I use? I am attaching a word document of the model that I have till now. Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tilo

Hi, Thanks so much for all your responses. I downloaded the tool from the ArcGIS resource gallery that Dan suggested and it worked perfectly. However, I will also try the methods suggested by gabrisch and Shitij. Thanks a bunch! Thanks, Tilo
