You should be able to specify which geocoder to use when using the Find URL parameter for webmaps. You can add in a custom geocoder to a webmap and that works fine but when you use the &find parameter with the URL to the webmap it still uses the world geocoder. There is a bug in the way ArcGIS reads add-in if you use profiles that are set up in an unconventianal way. The problem is that ArcGIS cannot find the add-ins after you make changes to them so they buttons show up with red x's and don't run. In Visual studio for each project you will need to do the following: Right click on the project in visual studio>Add New Item> under common Items select Text File and name it 'Dont_EsriRegAddin.txt' Set the build directory under properties - Right click the project,go to properties, go to build tab and set output path to a common location Example: C:\ArcObjects\Completed Add-ins Compile the project, visual studio shouldn't create an add-In GUID in folder "\\<servername>\home\<yourname>\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.1" Open ArcMap, Go to Customize menu -- > Add-In Manager --> Options tab and add the build folder you set in properties C:\ArcObjects\Completed Add-ins and press OK. Why does the arcObjects help have to be so cryptic? It seems to be written for people who already understand it fully. For example when I look up how to set the scalebar units, I would like it simply to say how you use it: .Units = ESRI.ArcGIS.esriSystem.esriUnits.esriMeters; with a sample of: IScaleBar scalebar = scalebarStyle.Item as IScaleBar; scalebar.Units = ESRI.ArcGIS.esriSystem.esriUnits.esriMeters; Instead we get something that even after successfully setting the units we have no idea how the help given relates to what you actually use in Visual studio. What is the official or proper location for arcpad.ini and is there a way to set it to a fixed location? If I search my computer I have 3 locations that the file exists in and Application.GetProfileString was working but now it isn't so I am wondering if arcpad has defaulted back to a location for arcpad.ini that I don't know about. I have arcpad.ini in the following locations: C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0\System C:\Windows C:\Users\admingis\Documents\My ArcPad I would like to only have one in the correct location for arcpad to find. I am using a windows 7 laptop with both arcpad studio and arcpad 10. I have made some form changes in arcpad studio and when I open the form in arcpad the form is an old version. I am using the axf format and used the existing apm and have started a new apm file and added in the axf with the updated timestamp in to arcpad and the old form shows up. If I open the apl from explorer using studio the new form is there. I have compiled, tried it, then moved the compiled file (not sure why it can't be the same location) I have done a few applications in arcpad 6 and 7 with related tables so thought I would try the new format tosave on coding but it is driving me crazy. It feels like I am doing something out of order in my workflow or missing some information of how to make changes stick. The fies get new save dates but they are not connecting in arcpad. or maybe it doesn't like where the files are saved C:\Users\Public\Documents\TreeInventory in windows 7. Any ideas on how to get the changes to show up. ... View more

We have custom attribute edit screens written in VB6 for ArcMap 9.2 that use GDB_OBJECTCLASSES.EXTCLSID. When we copy the layer to ArcGIS 10 the custom screens come up nicely but of course don't work so I have a few questions. Where is the EXTCLSID now stored in the new ArcGIS 10 geodatabase tables so I can remove the reference to old screens? I know that in ArcGIS 10 the custom attribute edit screens will need to be re-written in .net but do they come in as COM component still or are they now supposed to be add-ins? ... View more
