The '+' operand works when both are string (or of same type). Your output is an object of type 'Result'. When you converted it to a str your code worked 🙂 A better practice is to call getOutput to get the whole path of the geodatabase: output.getOutput(0)

Most probably you are using INTERSECT option. Use CLOSEST match option instead - only 1 will be chosen as join feature.

Could you please let us know what parameter values you are using? Especially, these ones: Join Operation Keep All Target Features (checked? unchecked?) Match Option When a manhole is snapped to a T-section then the manhole actually belongs to all of the three, no? In that case, how do you want to determine the sewer line it should belong to?

I think what Mark is looking for is an equivalent of Editor extension of .Net. If so, that is not possible with Python add-in. However, you can listen to various editing events from a Python add-in. Check out the help topic on Application Extension - you'll find the following editing events can be listened to: onEditorSelectionChanged onCurrentLayerChanged onCurrentTAskChanged onStartEditing onStopEditing onStopOperation beforeStopOperation onStopOperation onSaveEdits ... and few more.

Sorry Jeff 😞 There is no TextBox add-in even in ArcObjects .Net SDK. These controls are created through an IDE. You can use WxPython to create such controls. Here is a blog - check it out: Custom wxPython GUI??s: an approach for ArcGIS 10.1 The easy and safe is to create a script tool (with a string parameter in your case) and call pythonaddins.GPToolDialog(.....) to pop-up that tool.

Use a combobox to take the input. Make sure set the combobox's editable property to true. Write your code inside the OnEnter event of the combobox.

You need to register the DLL on each machine (with Desktop installed) from where you'll publish the tool. Also, are you using categories.exe to register the DLL or just to view what's installed?

Here is a code snippet (following Jason's suggestion) - it should work on any 10.0 service pack. searchCursor = arcpy.SearchCursor(in_fc)
fc_dict = {}
for row in searchCursor:
geom = row.SHAPE
fc_dict[row.OBJECTID] = geom.__geo_interface__
# browse the dict and get back the geoms
for k, v in fc_dict.items():
new_geom = arcpy.AsShape(v)
print new_geom.area A note about my earlier posting on the pythonic way of iterating a dict was directed to Python newbies.

You wrote "... comes to the exams I get lost" - does your course has anything to do with ArcGIS and Python? If so, then I would suggest start from the Desktop help on Python: What is Python A quick tour of Python Using Python for ArcGIS does not involve heavy programming - just follow the examples in help for geoprocessing tools and functions.
