Hi, When about to run egdbhealth tool, i got message : "WARNING: Connecting user (SDE) is the owner of the eGDB, but they do not have the 'SELECT ANY DICTIONARY' server privilege. Many queries will fail to execute; conslut the eGDBHealth documentation for permissions information. You may click the 'Run' button to execute eGDBHealth, but you are encouraged to get the 'SELECT ANY DICTIONARY' privilege." What is the maximum number of records (Names) or Categories yielded after running the egdbhealth.exe without the "SELECT ANY DICTIONARY" privilege ? By having SELECT ANY DICTIONARY privilege granted, will it change the number of rows obtained and/or giving out more technical recommendations ? I am using SDE user to run it. I get : 1. Context : 70 Names in 17 Categories 2. Expert : 171 Names in 7 Categories Thanks 🙂 BTW : there slight typo in the egdbhealth app. See the warning section. @DannyKrouk

Hi, Thanks for your kindness Danny. For your answer about question 1-3, i get your message. Thank you very much. 🙂 For the last one, I need to supply more details. I meant, for all the values in column "Name", are there any corresponding database parameters that I can check ? eg, just in general : say "backups" or "statementsharing" are marked in color. How to see (prove, by running a query to certain oracle parameters / tables ) that "backups" or "statementsharing" are really causing the performance degradation ? After that, how can I fix that parameters / value in Oracle so that the "backups" or "statementsharing" are not considered as Critical ? And one more thing. It is suggested that I should separate between SDE schema and User schema. How do I prove that such separation will increase performance ? Is there any such queries on Oracle that I can run to prove this ? Some clients just want to see the prove with hard evidence or metric value. 🙂 Thanks again for your help Danny. 🙂 best regard

Feature Dataset is not meant for organizing data like Folder and Sub-folder behavior. Their primary purpose is for organizing related feature classes into a common dataset for building a topology, a network dataset, a terrain dataset, or a geometric network. Also, having a lot of FD will generate traffic inside your EGDB.

Hi, I am doing EGDBHealth check but I don't really understand some of the results. Couple of questions : From "Overview Context tab" pic : 1. There are 3 Criticals issues. They have different Queryelapsed times. For items 1 and 2 (AttachSizeSql and SqlSdeBintypeSize..) they have time < 100ms, why are the marked Critical ? Whereas the item #3 is Critical too with time > 100ms. 2. I find that QueryElapsedTime are italicized if they are >100ms. Why ? Is there any specific reason ? From "Expert Context tab" pic : 3. Suppose that I do not want some parameters included in the examination of EGDBHealth. How do I omit those parameters because some of the evaluated parameters are OK ? 4. Are there any specifics database parameters that directly associated with the values here ? I am using Oracle 12c and SDE 10.5 Thanks in advance

Same effect George. I just found out that the Desktop version that support Oracle 12c is 15.1 Here it says "You must install on all 10.5.1 client machines to use Oracle 12.2.01 with ArcGIS". Mine is 15.0 thanks

Yes. I have the Path in the Environment variables set. I have 2 Oracle Clients, for 32 and 64bit. And the order of the path is set that 32bit is listed before the 64bit

Anyway. Thanks George. I think that Desktop 10.5 simply cant connect to geodatabase in oracle 12c. I don't know, may be I am wrong. But, I am able to connect using ArcGIS Pro 2.6 easily.

Hi, I am just wondering the possibility of connecting to ArcSDE 10.5 hosted on Oracle 12c from Arc Catalog 10.5. The geodatabase is using Oracle 12c (ver 12.2.0.1.0). I have tried putting on the Instance Name these string in Arc Catalog : "sde:oracle12c:dbnew", " sde:oracle12g:dbnew". The Oracle Instant Client that I am using is for 12c 32bit. I can connect fine to Oracle 11 and 12 from DBeaver. The TNSPing to all instances are OK too. I am able to connect to ArcSDE 10.5 (on Oracle 11g) from ArcCatalog 10.5 I have Oracle Instant Client 32bit installed. And the TNS Name is correct too (i am using a copy of working TNS Names format) thank you

Hi. I am confused about the use of Log File Pool. I have read : https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/10.3/manage-data/gdbs-in-oracle/logfiles-oracle.htm. It seems that the environment I am working now is a mix of Shared and Session-based log. I said its a mix because the geodatabase is edited via desktop client and due to lack of adequate licenses, some edits are going through FS accessed by ArcGIS Pro and web apps. 0. How to see the current pool mode ? 1. Which Log File Pool is the best option ? 2. How do you determined that such mode is the best ? is there any metrics / variables to be checked to determine whether the chosen mode is the best option ? Thanks

Hi George, "What Oracle parameters do I have to check to maximize performance (I want to start with the database first) ? I usually do not touch this unless needed" What I want to do is performance tuning, maybe by increasing SGA or PGA, block size etc, as outlined in some Esri articles about geodatabase tuning. I want to investigate some Oracle parameters, what they are, what their values are and how / when their values are considered bad or good. I can't seem to find any study on this (I know, each database is unique, but I guess the parameters are similar somehow) . Thanks.

Hello there, I have these crazy map services that need to be mapped out to their corresponding feature classes. How to do this easily ? I don't want to open each map services one by one. Any suggestion ? thanks alot

Hi, I am wondering if there are queries to check the geodatabase overall performance ? I want to monitor the performance and tune it. I have geodatabase with condition like this : - being accessed by 20 people max (this is the total peak of concurrent users) editing (through ArcGIS Pro) via web feature service published at Portal on premise and some using ArcMap. - There are many viewers (via web app and android). I guess wildly and without prove : <350 viewers via web apps - SDE schema is not separated from USER schema. No multiple tablespaces nor partitions - All desktop users connect using Direct Connect - Arcgis server, Geodatabase and Portal are hosted separately - Lots of KEYSET tables (7000+ tables) and indexes, lots of unnecessary tables too - Lots of Relationship Classes - Accessed by different clients : Desktop editing, Web (Feature Service editing, Web apps queries, Android apps queries) - Others : Set to OLTP database, Using ST_GEOMETRY as spatial datatype, Non-versioning (because it is not necessary) - Slow when loading big imagery and feature class - There are 500+ map services - Many times, no separation between Publishing and Production geodatabase. One sample : editing geodatabase via FS published through local Portal - Many Feature Datasets (FD). It is said (ESRI UC 2005, Geodatabase Tuning and Performance, p.12) that having FD will generate unnecessary server activities Questions : 1. What Oracle parameters do I have to check to maximize performance (I want to start with the database first) ? 2. Will removing Feature Dataset helps ? By how much performance will be gained in removing FD ? 3. Should I impose more on utilizing Subtype and Domain ? Are there anything else besides these...? 4. Does having many Map Services affect geodatabase performance ? 5. Which once degrades the server performance the least : Editing via ArcMap using Direct Connect or editing via FS, published at on-premise Portal, using ArcGIS Pro ? One thing for sure is to suggest separation between Publication and Production geodatabase Thanks for your thoughts and considerations. I appreciate them... environment : ArcGIS Geodatabase 10.5, Oracle 11g, ArcMap 10.5, ArcGIS Pro 2.8

I see. Thanks George. That really open my mind. I was under impression that the configuration showed in the original pict i posted was for creating 1 geodatabase that incorporating 2 databases (2 databases that make up 1 geodatabase). I was using RAID analogy in interpreting the picture, ie : multiple HDDs combines into 1 logical HDD. Thanks for clearing up.
