Our use case is that we have several different surveys to track and document months-long processes for jurisdictions that we serve. So we have a single jurisdiction dataset for geometry and then several 1:1 related tables for their respective surveys. This allows staff to to launch their tracking forms from a URL parameter in a dashboard.

Is it possible to either a) display the word count or b) highlight in some way when a user exceeds the word count when submitting a survey through a browser when editing an existing feature/survey and without adding a note and relevant field for each text field? This thread is helpful but it's now three years old, and I would like to know if there is any new intel that I'm missing. In my case, my survey is accessed via a web form, and is always used to edit a related table of an existing feature service. As such, the character counter does not display. The workaround of adding a relevant field and note field for each would work but my survey has dozens of long-form questions, and would love to avoid having to created several dozen additional as a workaround. Are there any updates to this workflow since the above thread was posted three years ago?

Glad you've brought this to my attention, as I was hunting for ways to display character count. Turns out I am editing an existing feature class in my survey and that explains why it won't display.

Piling on here as this was an important change. I am attempting to add a field to a feature service that has a view. The previous workflow was to add the field, then go to the REST endpoint for the view's feature layer, change visibility from 'false' to 'true,' reset the edit date, and apply the update. This would allow the added fields to cascade into the view. But now there are not admin rights on the view layer's endpoints and the workflow if failing to produce the same results. Edit - won't get rid of this comment, but discovered that it's still possible there's just a different order of operations.

Well I'll take heart that you're equally un-answered, but remain demoralized that I can't seem to get this figured out. I don't know if it's always been this way but most of the posts I've made over the last few months have gone almost completely unanswered. Between the inconsistent support here and Esri's failure to update or provide accurate documentation at the pace they make changes it's easy to get frustrated.

It's not explorer; I've isolated that one. I will reconfigure to work in memory and see how that goes. I built this following the model of another script that creates a temporary workspace and as far as I can tell I've followed it fine but maybe there's a detail I'm missing.

@Anonymous User I am not an expert pythonista, so I am not sure if my workflows are best practices, but I wanted to write to disk so that I can verify intermediate data as I work downstream. This seems like a reasonable thing to keep in the workflow so if there are problems with the script's execution later it can maybe be troubleshooted (troubleshot?). union is in the tempGDB, lastIncorp_xml is not. When I have the contents of the gdb open in File Explorer I notice the lock file disappear when the program executing python is closed, so there's something about accessing it in this way that creates the lock file (which supports your argument for doing it in memory, but I would like it on disk if I can). I have tried re-ordering items in the deletion but to no avail. I will try to put them in as references and se if 'del' works.

I am having trouble with the last phase of a script for a script tool: I cannot figure out how to delete my temporary gdb to close out the script. Having the program that's executing the script open retains a lock in the gdb...for instance when I close Jupyter (or VS code, or IDLE) I can see the lock file in the gdb disappear. How can I construct my code so this isn't an issue when made into a script tool? There have a been a few other posts on this topic and none of those solutions seem to be quite right. The general advice has been to add an arcpy.env.overwriteOuput = True, and that has not been effective. The code that creates the gdb: #Create temporary Workspace arcpy.AddMessage("\nCreating temporary workspace") tempName = "incorp" + outVersion + "_TEMP" tempGDB = os.path.join(outFolder, tempName + ".gdb") arcpy.management.CreateFileGDB(outFolder, tempName) arcpy.env.workspace = tempGDB arcpy.env.overwriteOutput = True The script then goes on and does several operations within that temp gdb, clipping, erasing, querying, adding fields, etc. Then when I go to delete it... #Delete intermediate data arcpy.AddMessage("\nDeleting intermediate data") todel = (tempGDB, union, lastIncorp_xml) for dataset in todel: if arcpy.Exists(dataset): arcpy.management.Delete(dataset) I get ERROR 000601 - Cannot delete [path].gdb. May be locked by another application. Failed to execute (Delete). Any thoughts on what can be done so the tool can clean up after itself?

Is it possible to somehow import the extent of a parent object into the map in Survey123? Our workflow launches survey123 from a polygon record in Web App Builder, which is then used to capture an additional polygon in a geoshape question. As it's all browser-based it would be nice to hard code an imported extent into the xls form. What I would like to be able to do is import the extent from the parent object and use that to define the map extent for the geotace question. Is this possible?

@RhettZufelt I am referring to the history in the metadata of the feature class. This is indeed very possible in ArcMap. I have an tool in ArcCatalog that clears it. This is fine if it remains the solution, but I'm hoping to do something different. I would like to still log geoprocessing history, as it's helpful generally. But for the datasets that we produce for public consumption we want to make sure that's cleaned out of the metadata. We have several tools that were built for ArcMap/ArcCatalog that I'm in the process of updating for use in Pro and I would like to be able to tack on at the end of the script the ability to clear metadata, so the output is truly finished.

Following up on the thread from mid-2018. When producing public-facing datasets we delete the item's geoprocessing history. Several of these datasets are finalized with script tools. I would like to add a final step of removing geoprocessing history at the end of these tools, so I don't have to do so manually. Is this possible? It might be contradictory, since the act of removing said geoprocessing history is a geoprocessing operation, but I would like to know if I should give up hope of trying.

I am not sure if this is even a question, but an issue I've noticed: adding featured content to a group will not always stick. I would say ~85% of the time it works as it should, but that other 15% I will select an item to show up in the overview page and it just.....doesn't. I'll click again to 'Change featured content,' and the box for the item I just checked will be unchecked. It seems to be group-related, because the same group will have trouble over and over with the the item. The item and it's dependent element is definitely shared to the group, and can be accessed through the group's content...just not featured. What gives?

@Robert_LeClair Thanks for sharing. I see we're on to 'version 2', which is nice, considering we worked with an Esri tech over the course of weeks to get version 1 to work, to no avail. Can you share why you guys publish documentation on a process that doesn't actually work? It's both frustrating and asinine. It would be one thing to come across the method somewhere else, but the fact that it's official documentation from the company that produces the software is pretty silly.

Ago-assistant works great. But not for Story Maps. Esri has documentation for a python script to clone content to another organization but it doesn't work yet.
