Hi, I want to share an update on Esri's web course UI. We recently released a new web course design that features a much thinner banner along the top and a resizable/expandable/collapsible table of contents on the left. Many of our web courses have been republished to use this new design and future web courses will use it. We hope the new and improved interface supports a seamless and productive learning experience on your laptop and tablet. Thanks again for sharing your feedback and please continue to share it, here in the Community or in our course surveys. We read, appreciate, and act on all feedback. 🙂

Hi, now that the course has started, there is no way to cancel your registration. However, MOOCs are designed with learner flexibility in mind. You are free to attend and consume as much of the course content as you like—and you are free to not attend the course at all (though we will be sad to see you go 🙂 ). We understand that attending a MOOC requires a time commitment that not everyone can meet. If your schedule frees up, feel free to come back to the MOOC. It will be open through May 31.

In keeping with our ongoing commitment to provide flexible options to grow GIS and ArcGIS skills, a brand-new e-Learning format has been added to the Esri Academy catalog. ArcGIS labs are self-paced learning options that emphasize hands-on practice through step-by-step exercises. Each lab includes one or more scenario-based exercises, the data needed to complete each exercise, a quiz to measure your understanding of the workflows taught, and a certificate of completion for successfully passing the quiz. As with Esri Academy web courses, you’ll need to have the software used in the lab exercises in order to complete them. What can you learn? ArcGIS lab topics are varied, ranging from the highly practical Working with Charts and Reports in ArcGIS Pro to the highly actionable Building an App in ArcGIS Online to Expand Food Access. Advanced topics are also available and include Downscaling a Prediction Model Using ArcGIS Notebooks and ArcGIS Pro and Visualizing Multidimensional Data Using Voxels in ArcGIS Pro. Use ArcGIS labs to explore interesting topics and ArcGIS workflows you may not be familiar with yet—and build valuable skills to advance your GIS-related goals. We'll be adding more ArcGIS labs to Esri Academy in the coming months. Have a topic you’d like to see as an ArcGIS lab? Let us know in the comments. Explore ArcGIS labs and try one for yourself

Hi Liz, we provide the ArcGIS Pro software needed for the course exercises. Instructions for getting that setup are inside the course. Note that the machine you use to attend the MOOC needs to meet the ArcGIS Pro system requirements. https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/arcgis-pro-system-requirements.htm

Hi, thanks for sharing your feedback, Judy. Out team is working on a new, friendlier web course design that will have a slim top banner and other UI improvements. I don't have a firm date for when these changes will be released, but our team is working on it now. I'll post here when the new design goes live. In the meantime, printing the exercise pages may be an option to consider.

Hi, thanks for sharing your feedback and sorry to hear the web course interface is impacting your learning experience in a negative way. That's the exact opposite of what we strive for. 🙂 We've heard similar comments from a few others and the good news is we're working on a new, friendlier web course design that will have a slim top banner and friendlier table of contents panel. I don't have a firm date for when these changes will be released, but our team is working on it now. I'll post here when the new design goes live.

Hi Craig, most likely the issue is that you're using a different account to complete all components of the web course than the one you used to enroll in the learning plan. Even if your accounts are linked, the learning plan will update only if the same account is used to complete the resources it contains. If you've completed the course while you were signed in with the same account you used to enroll in the learning plan, please let me know and our team will investigate. Also, note that you can complete web course exercises using your ArcGIS trial account without changing the organizational account you're signing in with to work through the web course instructions (open ArcGIS Online in a new, preferably incognito browser window and sign in with your trial account).

Hi Matt, our MOOCs provide access to ArcGIS Pro, which runs on Windows, and we support the software that we provide for use during the course. It's possible to run ArcGIS Pro in a virtualized environment as noted below but we strongly encourage you to use the software we provide...just in case you run into any issues. Which we don't want you to. 🙂 Thanks for signing up!

Hi Jason, our learning plans are a good tool to organize typically large topics into smaller pieces (for example, Data Management is a big topic. The Fundamentals of Data Management learning plan helps uncover all the various subtopics that fall under data management.) There's no requirement to complete all the resources in any learning plan. If you explore the details of what's covered in a paid instructor-led course, you could then search for e-Learning resources that teach those topics. Instructor-led courses are an efficient way to learn, but we understand not everyone has budget for those. Many organizations using ArcGIS do have a training budget. Esri partners, Esri Nonprofit Program members, and Education Institute Agreement members get a discount on instructor-led training.

Hi, in the ArcGIS Pro Help, I found this explanation: When using data where a one-to-many or many-to-many relationship exists, use a relate or relationship class to establish the relationship between the datasets. However, you can create a join under these circumstances. When you create a join in such a case, there are differences between how tools and other layer-specific settings work depending on the data source. If you are using data in the same geodatabase to create the join, all matching records are returned. If you are using nondatabase data, such as shapefiles or dBASE tables, to create the join, only the first matching record is returned.

Hi Todd, our team created a learning plan to help individuals prepare for this exam—you can explore it here: https://www.esri.com/training/catalog/6215281a6decb81a22f2b6a7/esri-enterprise-system-design-professional-certification-2201/. Also, the Exam Information Guide has a lot of really useful information, including what's covered in the exam, what is not covered, and the percent coverage of each high-level skill measured by the exam.
