Hello Esri Community!

We've got a new study for ArcGIS Online running from Monday, February 23rd to Friday, March 6th. This study is exploring ways to improve your mapmaking experience across ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro.

For this study, we are interested in hearing about people's map creation process involving ArcGIS Online, and for people to walk us though a recent map they created. Those who complete the study will be offered an $80 gift card as a thank you for your time*

For this project, were looking for people willing to share their process building a map that has:

  • 5 or more layers
  • Been created in the last 90 days

These sessions are only used for research and development purposes, and will not be shared externally. There's no need to feel like you need to share your best work, we're more interested in the process of mapmaking and the user experience of the software.

This is a remote study conducted over Microsoft Teams and will last approximately 60 minutes.

If interested in participating, please send a direct message to @TiffanyClark or email uxuiresearch@esri.com for more details about this study and to schedule your session.

*We understand not all customers are able to accept a monetary incentive for their participation. Accepting the incentive isn’t required to participate in this study. More details about the incentive will be provided to interested parties.

Hello!

It is always good to hear from Esri Community! To the extent of my understanding, I do believe that the study of the map-building process will cover all major issues related to user experience while clearly distinguishing between a basic map and a professionally designed one. It comprehensively addresses every stage of development, including data preparation, proper database management, application of cartographic principles, advanced symbology, scale range configuration, and effective map sharing.

The study further explains that creating maps using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online involves distinct methodologies and specific technical requirements that must be carefully followed to achieve professional results. It also highlights common map-making mistakes, such as using shapefiles instead of a geodatabase, failing to remove unnecessary fields, or neglecting to set appropriate scale ranges.

In addition, the study addresses concerns regarding transparency in credit consumption, noting that the unexpected depletion of 1,000 credits from an ArcGIS Online account, without prior notification or clear explanation, underscores the need for improved monitoring tools, detailed usage reporting, and proactive alert systems to ensure accountability and prevent unforeseen resource loss.

I appreciate the idea of using incentive gift cards. From my perspective, it might not fully match the brand experience you’re building, engagement that feels authentic and meaningful often resonates more than purely transactional rewards.

Just a thought, and thanks for considering!
