I??m interested in know if there are any best practices (or tools) for estimate road width using imagery? I realize that this is not the most accurate method ??measuring? it, but for my purposes, I don??t need really accurate ROW measurements.  Regardless, I want to know what I should pay attention to in terms of pixel size etc so that I can speak intelligently about the data quality. I??m relatively new to GIS, so I??d like to know if doing this is a ??no no? and/or what I should keep in mind with it?.

I am also new-ish to this.
1.  What is the level of accuracy you need?
2.  What is the level of accuracy of your Imagery?

Should be able to use the "measure" tool and get a ±2' level of accuracy, depending on the level of zoom and of the accuracy of the Imagery.

I know this might not be much help but my 2 cents.

Hello-

1.  I do not have any restrictions on the accuracy of my work.  I'm doing my "best" to create a schematic of my town's water delivery system.  We have no complete or up-to-date maps.
2.  The imagery has a cell size of 3.2X3.2ft.  This is what you are referring to, right?

Thanks for your input!
