So, is there a way to figure this out or is this a guestimation on our end?  Is this related to the Carbon Footprint?

Here??s how it works:

A gas vehicle produces 19.6 pounds of CO2 per gallon of fuel used, diesel vehicles produce 22.4
To estimate CO2 using known miles per gallon (MPG) for a gas vehicle:
19.6 lbs. of CO2 per gal. / MPG = lbs. of CO2 per mile
19.6/18  = 1.08 pounds of CO2 per mile

A gas vehicle produces 19.6 pounds of CO2 per gallon of fuel used, diesel vehicles produce 22.4 (Source: US Energy Information Administration http://www.eia.doe.gov/
