Reproject Local Government Data Model from XML workspace document

I've just downloaded the Local Government data model, and imported the xml workspace document into an SDE geodatabase. The database unfortunately retained the Illinois projection. Is there a recommended workflow for changing this to the user's local projection?

I've tried projecting the data, but then it just creates copies of features which disassembles the relationship classes, etc. It seems like there should be a more streamlined way to do this.
