How do I create a grid?

Hi,
I am an ARCGIS beginner, so maybe my unsolvable question may be easy for you answer.
I want to do a analysis based on spatial data such as landcover etc. and check this for correlations with the distribution of a species. The distributionmap is a jpeg of a map, in which presence data are marked for quadrants on a scale of 1:25000. Now I would like to transfer these 1:25000 grid into my other shapefiles in oder to extract the data for each quadrant.
I don´t really have to draw the grid by hand, do I? There must be some easier way.

Is your grid something that was created for this project, or is it a standard grid (UTM etc.)?

You might want to try the Fishnet tool if you need to create a grid.
