Hi, I'm fairly new to ArcGIS and would like to help my public works department get more up to speed using this technology. I've been having trouble editing a streets layer for my whole county. Basically, through our GIS department there is a layer of all streets throughout the county. As an unincorporated county government I've already clipped the incorporated city streets out, and am left with a layer with all the county streets and roads. I started to further narrow this to only county-operated roads by exporting this file to excel and deleting all entries that are not county-maintained streets. However, I don't know how to import this back into ArcGIS. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Angela

Hi Angela

If your original dataset has a unique identifier for each record (ID field of some sort) which is maintained in the exported CSV file, you can do an attribute table join between the original spatial dataset and the edited CSV file, selecting to retain only matching records. Export the joined dataset to a new feature class/shapefile and you will end up with a spatial dataset including only those records in the CSV file. Note - you cannot have the CSV file open at the same time as doing the join.

Hope this helps
