What is a good Best Practice Map or Data Guidelines ?

or should I say to find a good best practice a guideline that I'm looking for a checklist sheet to  reduce errors on map or data  ?  They can be from ESRI, or anywhere where I can read about them.

Thanks, I was able to open the proceedings from ESRI and it takes some time to open it and it works.
