Provide the ability to create a flight plan using a polygon from a Feature Layer similar to how it's done using Site Scan Flight. This would allow for the same functionality at the desktop as you can do on a tablet.
Hi @Andrew-Bowne, flight planning in Manager is limited to the basic planning capabilities. As we continue to expand flight planning features in the Flight app, it becomes a larger effort to maintain these in Manager.
What's the primary motivation or need for advanced desktop flight planning? Is it an iPad access issue?
Thanks for the reply. We share one (soon to be two) iPads for drone usage but these iPads also serve other roles so sometimes they may not always be readily available. Having more robust flight planning at the desktop would negate the need for having the iPad "in-hand" for flight planning. It would also be possible for someone in the office to be planning of modifying flight plans while missions are currently being flown. This could be useful if you are flying a large area and you don't have all the missions planned before you begin. Someone in the office could be finalizing the flight plans while field crews begin flying already-approved missions. With a cloud sync from the iPad.... New flight plans would appear as they were created in the office. Lastly - it's just easier to click/pick/type on a desktop as opposed to having to worry about fat-fingering on an iPad!
We are considering expanding basic flight planning capabilities to ArcGIS Online, including using a polygon feature layer to define the area. Users wouldn't be able to modify existing flight plans from ArcGIS Online, but you could plan new ones and sync them to the iPad. Would that help?
@dozer - Yes, this sounds like it can be very promising. However - in our case we do not use ArcGIS Online. Would this functionality exist for Enterprise Portal as well?
