Location Referencing Extension in combination with Enterprise Geodatabase (SDE) data causes massive performance problems

Hi everyone,

when activating the Location Referencing Extension in combination with data from an Enterprise Geodatabase within an aprx project, we encountered massive performance problems, e.g. loading data or opening an attribute table takes several minutes (branch and traditional versioned). The problem has escalated with version 3.2, our current version. The Diagnostic Monitor reports "CSharesQueeu Stall timeout", the SDE Interceptor indicates that ArcGIS Pro runs a background query against all feature classes in the SDE. With a large number of feature classes, as it is the case here, this process takes a long time.

A support case that we opened in summer 2024 has now confirmed this behavior as a bug: BUG-000175150.

Our current workaround is to use a separate computer with ArcGIS Pro (version 3.4) using a aprx project that does not contain any SDE data. In this configuration the application works as expected. However, this requires us to constantly switch computers when we need to use the Location Referencing Extension. Also, we cannot work simultaneously with our usual datasets hosted in an SDE. Although some of the data is available via service layers, it cannot be visualized individually. An alternative workaround is to deactivate the license after each use (which also takes a few minutes) and restart ArcGIS Pro, in some cases even restart the PC to be able to work normally again.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a more efficient workaround?

@MajaMesserli - This is a known issue that the product team is aware. Please, continue to work with Esri Technical Support on the issue. You will need to request Esri Support for a hot fix. Hopefully, the fix will be included in the subsequent patch releases, Pro 3.4.4 and 3.5.1. I hope this helps.
