The Geospatial Information Systems for Transportation (GIS-T) symposium, hosted by the American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), is a highly anticipated event for professionals in the transportation industry. This annual symposium provides a platform for government and private-sector individuals to explore the use of GIS in transportation, exchange experiences, witness cutting-edge technology demos, and foster valuable connections. In 2024, GIS-T will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from April 2-5 at The Westin Peachtree Plaza.

Esri, the world leader in the GIS field, will have a significant presence at this conference, particularly our ArcGIS Roads and Highways team.

Empowering Transportation Agencies

Esri is the global market leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, and since 1969 has supported transportation professionals everywhere with the most powerful mapping and spatial analytics technology available, ArcGIS. Transportation agencies have trusted ArcGIS to improve operational efficiency, manage assets, ensure safety, monitor conditions in real-time, consider environmental impact, equity, and sustainability, and build and manage their transportation networks for the future.

Esri is pleased to team with AASHTO to sponsor a great opportunity for collaboration, experience sharing, and career education to drive a better and safer transportation system for the nation.

ArcGIS Roads and Highways in Action at GIS-T

ArcGIS Roads and Highways, an extension to ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise, is a powerful tool designed to assist transportation agencies within state and local governments in effectively managing and maintaining road networks. It allows you to integrate data from multiple linear referencing system networks to get a comprehensive view of your road network and perform dynamic segmentation and other analyses. With ArcGIS Roads and Highways, transportation agencies can streamline their workflows and enhance organizational efficiency.

GIS-T is an excellent opportunity to learn from the experts about the challenges that agencies face in managing the nation’s transportation network. The ArcGIS Roads and Highways extension helps in addressing many of these challenges by providing enterprise linear referencing capabilities to ArcGIS.

Technology Hall: Visit Esri’s booth in the Technology Hall to explore demos and engage with experts who can demonstrate how GIS and Esri products (including ArcGIS Roads and Highways) can effectively address your transportation needs and challenges.

Hands-On Learning Lab: One of the key highlights of this year’s GIS-T conference is the ArcGIS Roads and Highways hands-on learning lab. Whether you have a few hours to spare or just a few minutes, the lab is open throughout the conference, offering self-paced exercises that cater to your specific needs. These exercises provide an excellent opportunity to learn about new features and explore various tools. By participating in the learning lab, you can gain valuable insights on how to leverage ArcGIS Roads and Highways to efficiently manage your route and event data.

Engaging Tech Talks: In addition to the learning lab, we are thrilled to announce that, for the first time in the history of GIS-T, we will be hosting “tech talks” covering a wide range of topics. These talks aim to provide quick and engaging overviews of specific subjects, sparking your interest and encouraging further discussion. Join us for these informative sessions and expand your knowledge on the latest advancements in road network management. Download the agenda flier to view topics and schedules.

We are excited to offer these tech talks on focused topics that are of interest to many of our users. These talks touch on concepts and software functionality that users want to learn more about as they expand their use of Esri software and ArcGIS Roads and Highways within their organizations.

Meet the Product Team: Do you have questions on topics like migrating to ArcGIS Pro, or suggestions for functionality to add to the product roadmap, or challenges you are experiencing with ArcGIS Roads and Highways? Reserve a time slot with experts from the product team.

Latest product updates: The ArcGIS Roads and Highways team is currently working on a set of LRS-based widgets in ArcGIS Experience Builder. These widgets will provide support for event editing and offer additional functionalities like query, search, and analysis of LRS data. They will serve as a replacement for the Event Editor web application, which will be deprecated with the release of ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 in Q2 2024. We strongly recommend that you start planning the transition to these widgets. Read the announcement. One of the tech talks is on this topic and basic exercises on these widgets will be available in the learning lab. That way you can be the first ones to use them and provide feedback.

Similarly, the final release of ArcGIS Roadway Reporter web application will be in Q4 2024. We are introducing a next-generation experience in ArcGIS Enterprise (and ArcGIS Pro, if desired) which will enable transportation agencies to create standardized reports using linear referenced data and easily share them with other commonly used applications such as Microsoft PowerBI. This topic will also be presented as a tech talk. We encourage you to attend the presentation and share your feedback and suggestions.

We look forward to your active participation in these Tech Talks and your valued contributions to the ongoing improvement of these capabilities.
