Turn off the visibility of fields in all layers

I am trying to write something that will turn off the visibility of all my fields in all my layers in my current mxd. Can anyone help?

The only way that I can think to do this would be to author each layer with all the fields turned off, save that to a layer file and then use arcpy.mapping UpdateLayer.

I'm not sure about use use case but if you had 2 layer files for each layer, you could automate the turning on and turn off field visibililty.  If this is a one time only thing, then automating this with updatelayer doesn't make sense.
