Removing a join with arcpy?

Hello!
I'm writing a script that joins a feature class located in sde with a table then calculates a field in the fc. After calculating the field, my next step is to remove the join, however the RemoveJoin_management tool only removes joins from a layer, not a feature class. Is there another way to remove the join or another workaround?
The feature class I'm editing is located in sde and versioned. Thanks!
