Objects in this class cannot be updated outside an edit session

Hi all

I am using ArcGIs Desktop 10.2.2 and SDE 10.2

When running a "“CalculateField” command in Python or ModelBuilder it shows the following error message:

ERROR 999999: Error executing function.

Objects in this class cannot be updated outside an edit session [SEW.SCrossing]

Failed to execute (Calculate Field (17)).

Solution:  Versioning the feature dataset fixed this problem.
