multipatch to collada

I am trying to use the multipatch to collada tool, but it gives an error everytime, and I have no idea why. I have tried different multipatch models (one which was originally a collada file), but they all give the same error. I have attached to images which I hope can describe the situation. I've tried to do this in both arcscene and arccatalog.

Any ideas?

often the cause of this is because background processing is enabled, disable it and run it in the foreground.

I saw this tip, and decided to try it, but then ArcGIS crashed.. I sent an error report, but maybe I can fetch the log somewhere?
