Edits both original and new tool somehow?

I copied a custom python tool and pasted (with new name) into same toolbox. When editing the new tool, it appears to edit the original. Is this normal?

Are both tools pointing to the same script?

Is you copied the script the answer would be yes. Script tools will point to a script file. If you copy the script tool without copying and resourcing the script then both tools will point to the same business logic.
