Margins in the Legend

The margins in the Legend inserted by default with ArcGIS PRO are too tight to the text for layer and group names.  How can the margin be adjusted?  The Legend Properties -> background pane presented on the right hand side of application window does not adjust the margins.

After multiple chat sessions with ESRI we found the answer.

Select the legend in the layout, and select the Format menu at the top ribbon.  Adjust the Gap X and Gap Y values to suit your needs.

Being an old ArcGIS desktop user I was looking in the pane on the right because that is where everything else is.  The legend in old desktop had good default margins anyway that I never adjusted.

I shared with the https://community.esri.com/community/gis/applications/arcgis-pro?sr=search&searchId=38b1adf3-1445-45...‌ space... Petroleum is good, but I suspect that it will now receive a wider audience.

This option is no longer available in ArcGIS Pro 2.1.1.

I fixed it by adding a white rectangle with a border that's a bit bigger than the legend. And then put the legend (without border) on top of that. But we need a simple button to change the margins!

I just read this discussion for the same problem after 6 years and randomly found the solution. I use ArcMap 10.8 and to increase the Margin of Legend box, go to Lagend properties/Frame and adjust the X and Y gap under the Border box. For my case, 5 points are perfect to seperate legend frame and items.
