Welcome to GeoNet!

We are a community that collaborates, learns and shares together. To help you connect with other members, we started this introduction thread. Think of this as your intro to GeoNet networking and a chance to get to know  each other as we begin our GeoNet journey.

Please introduce yourself to the rest of the community by sharing your answers to the questions in the comments section below.

  • Where do you work and what is your role?
  • What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use? (big or small - no win is out of bounds)
  • What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community?

Bonus Round! Post the coordinates to your favorite place on earth.

note: this post has been archived, and is available in read only mode. To create a new introduction, please visit the new GeoNet Member Introductions‌ space. Thank you!

Hi Philip, Welcome to GeoNet! Thanks for jumping in and helping James, that is exactly what we like to see in our community! I am also happy to hear you have already been using GoeNet to find solutions! You probably already know these places but just in case, these might be of interest:

Survey123 for ArcGIS

ArcGIS Online

Collector for ArcGIS

Let me know if there is anything I can help you find.

The NRG is a really beautiful location, do you kayak or raft on the river? I currently live in WV (North-Central) so I am a little familiar with this part of "wild and wonderful" WV and it is beautiful. Richmond is a pretty cool city as well, lots of history and interesting historic architecture.

Thanks Michelle!

I haven't gotten a chance to boat down the river yet. I mainly do a little-known sport called highlining, so I spent a lot of my time up on top of the cliffs - or at Summersville Lake. You're lucky to live in WV!

  • Where do you work and what is your role?

Hello!  My name is Sue Carmichael, I live in Paso Robles, CA. which is in the beautiful county of San Luis Obispo, home of Cal Poly. Paso is located half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco and is in central California.

I do not work with GIS; I’m a student. In September of 2017, I retired from AT&T after 38 years, and I’m currently looking for employment.

  • What GIS success have you had this year and what product did you use? (big or small - no win is out of bounds)

My GIS success this year involves partitioning my new MAC, relearning Windows, using Windows 10, learning how to use my Apple mouse with Windows, and downloading GIS desktop along with learning how to use ArcMap.

The product we use in our class is ArcGIS.

  • What is your expertise (GIS related or not), and how can that help the community?

I have no expertise what so ever. Before January of this year, I had never heard of it! I’m taking a GIS Fundamentals course at Cuesta College on their off-site campus in Paso, which is being taught by Dr. Feride Schroeder.

Hello to everyone on GeoNet!! Looking forward in reading everyone’s comments and following post on the form. Currently, I am a Contractor for the Missouri Department of Conservation. The company I work for is Timmons Group, whose headquarters is out of Virginia. The role that I am filling is for the Missouri Department of Conservation as a SDE administrator and system architect.

One of the major successes or strides that we have made this year is establish data governance within the database environment and ArcGIS online. In addition, we are in the process of integration of GIS Services in everyday IT workflows.

Most of my experience is in software development and data workflows. I have worked mostly in Local Government and Conservation for the last 10 years. It is my goal of this form to contribute some of my experiences and to also draw on the experience of my colleagues to be more effective as a GIS Professional.
