Hello All! I work as a GIS Specialist for a County Planning Dept in California. I've been here 14 yrs but only recently had enough support to put more effort into really modernizing our entire mapping/data collection process. When I started, they were still making maps with kroy tape and colored pencils. lol. I'm working on 2 fairly big projects right now.
We're developing a MAD (master address database) with our EMS. Our goal is to make it NG911 compliant and LGIM friendly. We kicked off this effort due to LUCA for the Census. The majority of our address records were stored on hardcopy maps and forms. So, it was (and still is) a long process getting those into GIS. We scanned and added metadata using Laserfiche. Then created point data from that in ArcMap. We had an Access database with some more recent addresses that was also brought in. We're in the process of merging both datasets with our EMS database for a final MAD product. Our IT is helping us use FME to then push updates to various depts and apps.
The second involves creating a master case database. Again, currently the info resides on paper maps. Thousands of them. I'm still researching the best solution for this.
Glad to meet you all! And happy mapping
