What is maplex?

Hello,

I do not understand Maplex.  Map Label Extension ( Maplex ) is Abbreviation.    Am I correct ?

Maplex is an Abbreviation Dictionary.

Example:   Riverside Street to Riverside St,   Post Office to P.O.  

Am I correct ?

Maplex was called Maplex long before it became a labeling extension - it's just a coincidence. A good one though 🙂
