At the 2024 UC a colleague reported that an esri staff member told him that it was possible to create an imagery layer that references an image in cloud storage.

Has anyone been successful in getting this to work?

I'm using this sample notebook: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=bd10a9f25d6c4dfab0db38cffda0901b

and for the input_data parameter in the publish_hosted_imagery_layer command I'm specifying the URL of my cloud-stored file (and providing a signed URL so read access should work).

When the command runs though, I get a message that "no image in collection to copy" and the imagery service creation job fails.

Hoping someone at esri sees this and can verify that creating an imagery layer "by reference" to a cloud-stored file is possible.
