The 2024 GIS Manager’s Summit is coming up in just 5 weeks –
Whenever I attend events of this format, I always wonder what it will really be like, and I wish an insider would share a preview… so that’s what I’m going to do!
In working with dozens of presenters getting ready for the summit, I’ve been seeing some great stuff coming together. So here’s a bit of a sneak peek of what to expect this year:
First, what’s the same –
Of course, you can expect the same great networking, active participation, and discussions. I’ve seen incredible connections made at the summit, and I’m even hearing Esri customers who are getting ready to present at this year’s summit, talk about how they connected on their idea at last year’s summit, that is going to make the stage this year.
You’ll definitely see some of the same faces from Esri – who work with your peers all over the world, and bring their hot takes from their broad experience.
But what’s different?...
There are three main things:
- More peers – I can’t give details, but the number of GIS Managers expected to join in the summit this year is higher than ever. In fact, I would say you better show up early because like all sessions at UC, it’s first-come first-serve, and we will have to close the doors once we hit a certain number…
Additionally, we’ve brought more of your peers who use Esri technology up onto the stage to share from their experience – 12 people to be exact – from all over the United States.
- Changes from your feedback last year – There are topics being discussed, that were specifically asked for by numerous GIS Managers after last year’s summit
- Do more with less: resource-constrained GIS support – if you’re a sole GIS Manager, lead a small GIS team, or work for a small organization, this will be a good one
- Tips, resources and tools – don’t tell the other presenters, but this is shaping up to be my favorite – this group of Esri SME’s is going to share dozens of resources and best practices that you can use.
- New topics – these are things being talked about that you won’t have heard at the summit last year:
- Well-architected framework, introduced and explored by one of Esri SME’s who developed it
- Obtaining Executive Sponsorship – this group will talk about why this is important, and how they make what might the most challenging foundational step to success work
- Esri’s GIS Request Management Solution – another great talk from the Esri SME’s who created this new resource, with a demo (what UC presentation would be complete without a demo?).
So those are some sneaks – but I expect there to be more. Several of the people working on the 2024 GIS Manager Summit, will likely tell you more, throughout June, right here in the GIS Managers Group.
And if you haven’t planned on joining us at the summit, you might want to get moving – add the summit to your agenda now, and maybe plan to get there early…
