Innovation – it's a secret to success in technology, but why is it elusive?

@MatthewLewin1 from Esri Canada will be leading a panel on innovation at the summit – Matt will discuss innovation with @ScottWeisman from Tallahassee-Leon County. James Alberque from the City of Raleigh, and Pino Nobile from NATO.

What to expect:

The group will talk about some key considerations to enable innovation in an organization:

  • Approaches to embedding innovation in the day-to-day operations of a GIS program
  • Innovation as a best practice for staff retention
  • The importance of cross-department collaboration and getting non-GIS users involved in geospatial innovation
  • Engaging senior leadership in GIS and winning support for innovation initiative

 

Jim Alberque serves as the City of Raleigh’s GIS and Emerging Technology Manager, collaborating with a dedicated team of developers, analysts, and technologists. Over the past decade, he has emphasized relationship-building and professional development in various technology management roles, delivering digital solutions that benefit both internal and public users. Prior to joining Raleigh, Jim worked in GIS technology roles with the City of Boston. He remains committed to public service and using technology to improve and enhance the lives of all Raleigh’s constituents.

Scott Weisman is the GIS program coordinator for Tallahassee-Leon County GIS. He has a master’s degree in GIS from Florida State University and is an adjunct instructor in the university’s masters of GIS program. Weisman is also president of the grassroots organization Seven Hills Regional User Group for GIS (SHRUG), which holds GIS conferences that serve the North Florida region.

Pino Nobile is the Head of the Geo & Space Services Section at NATO Headquarters in Brussels where he has been working for over 25 years. In this function, he is responsible for the provision of Geospatial and GEOINT services for NATO Headquarters. Pino has spent the last decade revolutionizing NATO Headquarters GEOINT services through effective automation and a relentless pursuit of innovation. As a GIS leader for his organization, he spearheaded the implementation of cutting-edge technologies that have streamlined operations, boosted efficiency, and significantly enhanced the HQ’s competitive edge. His visionary leadership in GIS, GEOINT and GEO-AI has led to the transformation of NATO HQ’s GIS solutions and has helped fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technology adoption across the entire organization, leaving a permanent mark on NATO HQ geospatial success.
