I'm looking for someone local to Kenya who can assist a forester in the Malindi region in starting with GIS.

He needs some simple maps and collecting/registration apps. Just some maps in field maps, perhaps Quick Capture, nothing beyond the level of tree species and some polygons.

I'm currently not able to manage this from the Netherlands.

Thank you for your time.

Hello @Gisbert61,

Thank you for sharing this opportunity.

While I am currently based in Nigeria, I work extensively across Africa on GIS and spatial data projects, and I would be glad to support or collaborate on initiatives within the region, including Kenya where feasible. Your requirement aligns well with my experience in developing simple, field-ready GIS solutions—particularly data collection workflows (including tools like ArcGIS Field Maps and QuickCapture), basic mapping, and spatial data structuring such as tree species inventory and polygon mapping.

As the founder of EMMA_GIS Geospatial Services, I have supported projects that focus on practical, real-world GIS applications, ensuring that even non-technical users can easily adopt and use the systems in the field.

I would be happy to:

  • Support remotely in setting up the GIS workflows and tools

  • Assist in designing simple and efficient data collection forms

  • Provide guidance or training for the forester or local team

  • Collaborate with any local contact you may have in Kenya

I am also open to future GIS projects within Africa where my expertise can add value.

If this sounds useful, I would be glad to share my portfolio and past project experience.

Looking forward to your response.

Warm regards,
Emmanuel Chukwuelofunem Okafor

@Gisbert61   Thanks for posting to start this discussion.  @EzraCheruiyot  Ezra and I were also seeking both locals and internationals to help us introducing students in Bomet County (NE Kenya near Lake Victoria) get introduced and honing mapping skill sets.    Bomet and Machakos Counties have recently received 4 shipping containers from Books for Africa, and people are beginning to read lots of new books.  We are trying to help student prepare Story Maps about their experiences.

Thank you Ezra and Tonny,  Your support for local development in Bomet County is noteworthy.  I am hoping to gather mappers who are interested in Lorcal or international but sustainable development projects to help us set up a distinct ESRI COMMUNITY for Kenyan development.    Keep up your good works.
