Throughout the course of a GIS career, we're each bound to assemble a toolbox of various skills and techniques. But every so often, there's one skill that fundamentally changes things for the better, opens up entirely new ways of working, or becomes a defining part of our professional identity. These transformative skills often mark before-and-after moments in our career trajectories.

What skill or technique has had the biggest impact on your GIS career? Was it becoming proficient in a coding language, becoming a power user for a certain ArcGIS product, or perhaps there's a soft skill you've made invaluable within the context of GIS?

What did it take to learn that skill and what doors has it opened? Would you recommend others invest time learning it? Share your experience below in a comment. Your story might inspire someone to develop a similar, powerful skill that makes a difference to their career!

@JesseCloutier   A young colleague at CWE-Tech recently asked what skill sets are most important to master.  I mentioned GIS, and wanted to introduce you to the EQUAL MEASURES 2030 website Equal Measures 2030

This is all about achieving SDG5 successful outcomes by 2030.
