Job Overview
The Field Operations and GIS Coordinator is responsible for conducting development plan research, collecting and entering field data, and assisting in the technological advancement of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS, data analysis, and urban planning/development, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven setting.
Position Description
Communication & Collaboration
• Maintain professional and effective communication with internal teams, clients, jurisdictional agencies, and developers.
• Summarize and present research findings in a clear and concise manner, utilizing visualizations such as maps, charts, and reports.
• Collaborate with demographers, GIS specialists, and planners to enhance project accuracy and efficiency.
Housing and Land Development Research
• Conduct field and online research to monitor housing starts, available homes for sale, and the status of developed and undeveloped lots within active subdivisions.
• Input collected data directly into the GIS mapping database to ensure real-time tracking of development activity.
• Investigate and verify subdivision activity by consulting homebuilders, jurisdictional reports, and site visits.
• Identify trends in land use, zoning changes, and permit issuances that impact school district planning.
GIS Mapping & Data Management
• Assist in maintaining and improving the accuracy of GIS mapping databases by integrating up-to-date housing and development data.
• Support the advancement of interactive online mapping tools to enhance data visualization and accessibility for clients.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of custom ArcGIS Pro mapping tools to streamline internal workflows and improve data processing efficiency.
Technology & Process Improvement
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve data collection, analysis, and mapping procedures.
• Support the integration of innovative GIS-based solutions to enhance data visualization and forecasting capabilities.
• Collaborate with technical specialists to test and implement software enhancements, leveraging advancements in technology to improve spatial analysis and optimize product efficiency.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, GIS, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• At least one year of relevant work experience in data collection, GIS, or urban planning.
• Ability to manage, prioritize, and multi-task independently on multiple workstreams.
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and navigate copious amounts of information and meet frequent deadlines.
• Ability to proactively learn job tasks, expand knowledge by embracing new responsibilities, and participate in training opportunities to stay current with industry advancements while also working independently and collaborating with a team to achieve project goals.
• Proficiency in GIS, specifically the ESRI platform, including Arc GIS Pro and ESRI online.
• Knowledge of cartographic principles and the ability to produce professional mapping products.
• Proficiency in software development and database analysis tools, including Arc GIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcServer, Portal for ArcGIS), ArcGIS Online, ArcPy, SQL Server, Arcade, and ESRI's JavaScript API.
Preferred Qualifications
• Expertise in common web programming and website development languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python
• Expertise in MS Access
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
The position can be local in College Station (preferred) or hybrid, with 2-3 days per week spent in the College Station office. • Ability to conduct fieldwork, including travel to various locations for site assessments.
• Valid Texas driver's license and vehicle insurance are required. Candidates must be able to pass a driving record background check.
• Prolonged periods of working at a computer and conducting field surveys.
• Work may include occasional evening and weekend hours based on project needs.
• The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing less than 40 pounds,
• The employee must regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work involves everyday risks and discomforts that require standard safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties.
• Travel will be necessary within the State of Texas, primarily to major metro areas and the outskirts, with an occasional overnight stay (the frequency will depend on the client and team member's locations).
