Hi,
I am trying to spatially join an attribute column of a polygon feature class (with ~30,000 features) to a point feature class with ~26 million features (Target Features). I am currently using the "Spatial Join" tool from Arc Toolbox. This geoprocessing tool has been running for an hour now, and the dialog box shows the number of features read as around 70 million and increasing. Does it have to read all feature combinations from both feature classes (26 million times 30,000 records) for the spatial join to complete? If that is the case, it may take weeks to process this data. I have never worked with such large files and am looking for a faster way to accomplish this. If anyone has worked with such large data, please share your thoughts.
Environment: ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1 Service Pack 2 (Build 4000)
OS: Windows 7 with 4 GB RAM
