I have a line which is consist of small segments when buffer is created some part of each buffer overlaps with the consecutive buffers of either side. In other layer i have some point which come in the overlaps of this buffer if i use join data from another layer based on spatial location this pointcount are added in both polygon, because of this my total number of pointsin the point layer and sum of the point show mismatch. i need the point count only in the single time ie. only in one polygon

options....

union the line segments together to get rid of the segmentation

use square end buffers if you want to keep the segmented lines.

union the buffers if you want the segmented lines.

You can create Spatial Join without create buffer layer.  Spatial Join—Help | ArcGIS Desktop using closest and you can define search radius equal to buffer range that you created.

/ Or Just Join Data based on location and use Closest to it .
