ESRI is putting much emphasis on using Python to extend the power of their desktop software and I am excited to learn more and do more with Python.  The very helpful ArcGIS 9 - Writing Geoprocessing Scripts With ArcGIS document has not been updated since 2005.  Are there any plans to update the Writing Geoprocessing Scripts With ArcGIS document to be current with ArcGIS 10?

Hi Joe,
I think it was 9.2 (or maybe 9.1?), that the 'Writing Geoprocessing Scripts with ArcGIS' pdf was repackaged and placed inside the regular desktop help system.  In the help system, the materials from that .pdf have evolved several times, and the pdf version which is still found online has not changed in quite some time (2005 sounds right to me).  To get Python help in 10, I would recommend looking in the main help system under the 'Geoprocessing with Python' section.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions

Thank you, Dave.

I have spent much time in the Geoprocessing folder of ArcGIS Desktop 10 Online Help consuming that information regarding Python scripting.  The online resources are very helpful, however, the 'Writing Geoprocessing Scripts with ArcGIS' document is a better learning tool (for me) that is more complete and contains nice examples and descriptions of Python scripting.  It's a mini 'ArcGIS Python' text book.

I'd like to see an ArcGIS 10 version of the handy "Geoprocessor Programming Model" for the ArcPy module.  Has one been published, and if so, where can I find it?

Thanks,

Not yet in Prerelease 10. Even the 9.3 pdf has been removed, which I think is a mistake, since we will need to support a lot of old style scripts for years. Keep your own copy before uninstalling 9.3!

I hope that there will be a new diagram. Not holding out hope for a new book. The authors have moved on to other projects.
